SIMPLE CIRCUITS Series circuit –All in a row –1 path for electricity –1 light goes out and the circuit is broken Parallel circuit –Many paths for electricity –1 light goes out and the others stay on

LEARNING OUTCOME Today we are learning to: How to use Electricity at Home safely.
11
Is Your Home…….. S (afe) A (nd) F (ree) from E (lectrical dangers)?
12
CHECK TO SEE HOW SAFE YOUR HOME IS Electrical cords are in good condition. Electrical wall outlets are not overloaded with too many plugs. Check for flickering lights, even after bulbs replaced. Check for sparks or smoke.
13
CHECK TO SEE HOW SAFE YOUR HOME IS Electric appliances are away from water sources. Check bathrooms, kitchens, and garages. Electrical cords are not placed under rugs, where they can overheat to cause a fire. Electrical appliances with loose plugs and points are replaced. Small appliances are turned off and unplugged after use. Extension cords are not in continuous use.
14
KEEP THE ELECTRICAL SAFETY WHILE OUTSIDE Keep an eye while: Flying Kite Trying to get the stuck kite Flying Kite with metal wire Never touch any electric pole on the road side
15
WHAT TO DO IF………… If there is an electric fire or someone with electrical shock. Do not touch anyone or thing which might have been electrically shocked. Turn OFF main Circuit Breaker. Call emergency or tell an adult, clearly that this involves electricity. Keep other children away from the scene. Electrical shock may cause internal injuries. The person needs to be immediately seen by a doctor, even if there are no visible burn marks.
16
A FEW MORE SAFETY TIPS….. Turn off electric games and equipment when they are not in use or when you go to bed. It is safer and also good for the environment! Regularly check the plugs, sockets and cords for signs of burning or torn. If damaged, make sure to get them repaired.
17
A FEW MORE SAFETY TIPS….. Don’t set things such as towels or paper plates on top of electric stove. If you get toast stuck in a toaster, don’t try to get it out while the toaster is still plugged in, especially not with a knife, or you could get an electric shock.
18
A FEW MORE SAFETY TIPS…… Never put water, drinks, or other liquids on or near electrical equipment. Always dry your hands before you use any electrical equipment or you could get an electric shock. Never take electrical equipment, such as radios or hair dryers, into the bathroom near a tub, shower, or sink containing water. You could get an electric shock.
19
RE-CAPTULIZATION DON'T plug a bunch of stuff into one outlet or extension cord. Put safety caps on all unused electrical outlets. DON’T pull an electrical cord from the wall. DO make sure all electric cords are tucked away, neat and tidy. DO look for power lines before you climb a tree.
20
RE-CAPTULIZATION DON'T climb fence around an electrical substation. Watch out for power lines while using a ladder, or other outdoor equipment. Keep electrical stuff far away from water. DON’T fly a kite near power lines.

FAZAIA PRIMARY SCHOOL, NUR KHAN WORK SHEET (SCIENCE : CLASS V) 1.Answer these questions: (a). Electricity helps us in how many ways? (b). State Electric safety rules (any three). (i) Giving us light and heat, (ii) Keeping our food cool and fresh, (iii) Provides various ways of learning and entertaining ourselves. (i) Never touch electrical switches, plugs, and sockets with wet hands. (ii) Never connect wires to a socket without a plug. (iii) Never over load a socket.
23
FAZAIA PRIMARY SCHOOL, NUR KHAN WORK SHEET (SCIENCE : CLASS V) 2.Write True or False. (a). Always plug an electric heater into a light socket. (b). Never over load a socket. (c). Electricity is of great help to us. (d). If you touch a bare wire, it cannot give you an electric shock.
