A Trip to the Egg-Mobile Here we are on our way out to the Egg-Mobile. We grow our egg layers out in the pasture so that they can have plenty of sunshine and plenty of space to roam. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

The Chickens have the ability to scratch around in the grass and pick through the cow patties to eat maggots, worms and any other insects to their liking. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

As we get closer watch to see if you can pick out any signs of chickens! [Press the right arrow key to advance]

As you can see the Egg-Mobile has a couple of pieces of tinted roofing to let in a good amount of sunlight during the daylight hours. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

See the chickens under the Egg-Mobile? Look closely. We have our Egg-Mobile placed far away from the house for many reasons. The first is so that they can help to spread out the cattle manure and also fertilize themselves. Secondly so that they wont tear up our gardens around the house. 6 Heres a chicken up close that came to see what I was doing. This particular chicken is a Production Red brown egg layer. As you will see in later slides, we also have Black Australorps and a couple of Gold Stars. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

O.K. here we are at the Egg-Mobile. As you can see the chickens are doing their best to scratch up whatever they can find. Also, if you look closely you can see some roosting under the house on the running gear. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

Here on the back we have a lean-to to store our feed under. These pictures are kind of out-dated because we have now added side walls to ensure that the chickens have clean dry feed at all times. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

Because the chickens are out in the pasture, about 30% of their diet is eaten in things other than feed! This helps us to give you the same quality eggs for a lower price. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

For the chickens water we have several waterers placed around the Egg-Mobile, allowing the chickens access to plenty of fresh water. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

On the side of the Egg-Mobile, under rain proof and predator proof doors, egg collecting is made easy and clean! The nests, as they are called, are designed to allow the chickens an area of privacy, and are just dark enough to keep the chickens from being in them too long (which also helps to keep the eggs clean!) [Press the right arrow key to advance]

This Egg-Mobile is made to house about 100 chickens, but only houses 30 at this time. In the near future, Lord willing, we will be adding 400 more layers to our flock which will require several more Egg-Mobiles. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

Inside Inside, the chickens have a comfortable, warm, dry place to roost and sleep at night or during a storm. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

On the floor of the Egg-Mobile there is a layer of chicken wire to allow the chicken droppings to fall through which helps to keep the chickens environment clean. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

At night, once the chickens have all hopped inside by their own instinct, we close the door to protect them from predators. During the cold winter months we cover the door with metal roofing to protect them from the wind. [Press the right arrow key to advance]

The Egg-Mobile is on wheels so that it is easily movable. We move it about every two weeks to give the chickens a fresh and clean area, with a plentiful supply of new bugs. [Press the esc key to close]
