Minorities and Popular Culture
Most Mexican Americans supported FDR and the New Deal even though they benefited much less than other minority groups. Many of the New Deal programs including the CCC and WPA discriminated against Mexican Americans.

In 1924, Native Americans received full citizenship and in 1934 Congress passed the Indian Reorganization Act. This law prohibited the government from selling unclaimed reservation land to anyone except Native Americans.

Even though times were hard, the movie industry was able to flourish during the Depression. About 75 million people attended the movies once a week.

Three of the most famous movies from this period included “Gone with the Wind”, “The Wizard of OZ” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.
