What type of document is it ?
Is it a letter? A Newspaper A government document or official paperwork? A Diary entry? An advertisement?

PROBING QUESTIONS ? Who created the source and why?
Did the creator have first hand knowledge of the event? Or were they simply reporting it? Is the author a neutral party? What is the author’s purpose? Does the author have a bias (or opinion) toward the subject? Does the authors wish to inform Or persuade? When was the document created? during the event or after the fact?

How to AnALYZE TEXT: Who wrote it?
What was the author trying to convey? Why do you think the document was written? Is there evidence within the document to help you understand why it was written? What is the author’s point of view or bias toward the subject?
