4 Studio C 5 Day Weather Forecast: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbHW1T7boSc

5 The Second Coming “Being born again is mentioned in the Bible 9 times; baptism is mentioned 52 times, repentance is mentioned 89 times… “But the Second Coming of Christ is mentioned over 1,800 times. If God thought this subject that important, he must have wanted us to do something about it” (Sterling W. Sill, in Conference Report, Apr. 1966, 19).

6 Contrast from Revelation 17?

11 When did you gain your testimony? When were you converted?
“Knowing that the gospel is true is the essence of a testimony. Consistently being true to the gospel is the essence of conversion.” (Elder Bednar, "Converted Unto the Lord" Ensign, Nov. 2012). When did you gain your testimony? When were you converted?

12 Revelation 19:10

13 Elder Holland CES Symposium on the Book of Mormon • 9 August 1994
“May I suggest to you that one of the things we need to teach our students and one of the things which will become more important the longer they live is the reality of angels, their work, and their ministry.   “Those personal ministering angels are with us and around us, empowered to help us, and who do exactly that.   “Perhaps more of us… could literally, or at least figuratively, behold the angels around us if we would but awaken from our stupor and hear the voice of the Spirit as those angels try to speak….   “I believe we need to speak of and believe in and bear testimony to the ministry of angels more than we sometimes do. They constitute one of God's great methods of witnessing through the veil.” Elder Holland CES Symposium on the Book of Mormon • 9 August 1994

14 At a Christmas social once, I was sitting next to a woman from a country in Eastern Europe. She was in the west for the helping with translation work. She was a convert of a little over a year. She told me about her branch and the poor circumstances they were all living in and how difficult it was for the members to get to their Sunday meetings… These new members could not say enough about the love and the gracious care of the Lord. Then she said, “Once in awhile, we have holy angels visit and comfort and strengthen us.” She added with a smile, “Can you imagine? I have found people in Salt Lake City who have never see an angel.” She laughed as if that were the strangest thing she had ever heard. Elder Enzio Busche, Yearning for the Living God, p. 234

15 Yet to Happen Missionaries called home (D&C 88:88-89)
Fall of the Abominable Church (D&C 88:94-95) The gathering at Adam-Ondi-Ahman (D&C 116) New Jerusalem (D&C 45:63–75) The Jews re-inhabit Jerusalem (D&C 45:63–75) Armageddon (Two prophets, Christ appearing on the Mount of Olives, Jews accept Jesus as the Son of God; Revelation 11) Boston, New York, and Albany Destroyed (D&C 84: ) No rainbow(?)

16 Will there be no rainbows the year Jesus returns?
Joseph Smith said, "The rainbow is not to be seen. It is a sign of the commencement of famine, pestilence, and so forth, and that the coming of the Messiah is not far distant. So long as you see the rainbow stretching across the heavens, there will be seed time and harvest, and the Son of Man will not come that year (Joseph Smith's Commentary on the Bible). Joseph Smith’s prophecy concerning the rainbow and the second coming comes from a sermon he gave on March 10, This particular part of Joseph Smith’s sermon was an attack on the Millerite belief that the second coming of Christ would occur sometime before March Joseph’s sermon was given 11 days before William Miller’s deadline for the second coming.

17 Yet to Happen Myth #1: We’re going to walk to Missouri to prepare for the Second Coming. Joseph F. Smith: “When God leads the people back to Jackson County, how will he do it? I think I see two or three hundred thousand people wending their way across the great plain enduring the nameless hardships of the journey, herding and guarding their cattle by day and by night. … This is one way to look at it. It is certainly a practical view. Some might ask, what will become of the railroads? I fear that the sifting process would be insufficient were we to travel by railroads.” (Journal of Discourses, 24:156–57.)

18 Yet to Happen Myth #2: The entire Church will be gathered to Missouri.
President Spencer W. Kimball: “We are building up the strength of Zion throughout the world. Therefore, we counsel our people to remain in their native lands and gather out the elect of God and teach them the ways of the Lord.” (Ensign, Nov. 1978, p. 76.) Elder Bruce R. McConkie: “‘The place of gathering for the Mexican Saints is in Mexico; … and so it goes throughout the length and breadth of the whole earth. Japan is for the Japanese; Korea is for the Koreans; Australia is for the Australians; every nation is the gathering place for its own people.’” (Ensign, July 1973, p. 5.)

19 Yet to Happen Myth #3: Immense destructions in Missouri
Amanda H. Wilcox reports Heber C. Kimball as saying, “The western boundries of the State of Missouri will be swept so clean of its inhabitants that, as President Young tells us, when we return to that place, there will not be left so much as a yellow dog to wag his tail.’” (Prophetic Sayings of Heber C. Kimball to Sister Amanda H. Wilcox, n.p., n.d., p. 6.)

20 Yet to Happen Myth #3: Immense destructions in Missouri
Elder B. H. Roberts published a prophecy of Joseph Smith to Alexander Doniphan, his lawyer. According to Doniphan’s brother-in-law, seventy years after it occurred, Joseph Smith warned Doniphan that “‘God’s wrath hangs over Jackson County … and you will live to see the day when it will be visited by fire and sword. The fields and farms and houses will be destroyed, and only the chimneys will be left to mark the desolation.’ “The devastation of Jackson county [during the Civil War] forcibly reminded him of this remarkable prediction.” (See Comprehensive History of the Church, 1:538–59; italics added.)

21 Yet to Happen Myth #4: The Gospel will be preached to all earthlings
“And again, this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come, or the destruction of the wicked” (Joseph Smith-Matthew 1:31).

22 Yet to Happen Myth #5:The Prophet at the Second Coming will be named David (Ezekiel 37:24-25: “And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them…and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.” Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg 339: “The throne and kingdom of David is to be taken from him [the original David] and will be given to another by the name of David in the last days, raised up out of his lineage.”

23 Yet to Happen Revelation 19:11-16
Myth #6: The Mormons will save the Constitution The Latter Day Saints would "go to the Rocky Mountains and ... be a great and mighty people", identified figuratively with the White Horse described in Revelation 19. The prophecy further predicts that the United States Constitution will one day "hang like a thread" and will be saved "by the efforts of the White Horse“ “The so-called 'White Horse Prophecy' is based on accounts that have not been substantiated by historical research and is not embraced as Church doctrine.“ ("Church Statement on 'White Horse Prophecy' and Political Neutrality", Public Affairs Department, LDS Church, August 25, 2011) Revelation 19:11-16

24 Just before His appearance to the World…
Matthew 24:29-31 2 Thessalonians 4:16-17 D&C 45:45 Isaiah 40:5

25 Why a horse? Why not a colt/donkey?
“He comes! The earth shakes, and the tall mountains tremble; the mighty deep rolls back to the north and the rent skies glow like molten brass. He comes! The dead Saints burst forth from their tombs. The ungodly rush to hide themselves from his presence, and call upon the quivering rocks to cover them. He comes! The breath of his lips strikes death to the wicked. His glory is a consuming fire. The proud and rebellious are as stubble; Satan and his dark hosts are taken and bound—the prince has lost his dominion, for He whose right it is to reign has come.’” (Charles Penrose, “Second Advent,” 583, as quoted in the Doctrines of the Gospel Institute Student Manual). Why a horse? Why not a colt/donkey?

26 “But what will the world do? They will say it is a planet, a comet, etc. But the Son of Man, which will be as the light of the morning cometh out of the east” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church 5:337). “When the Lord comes in his glory, in flaming fire, intense shall be the heat and so universal the burning, the very elements of which this earth is composed shall melt. The mountains, made of solid rock, shall melt like wax. They shall become molten and flow down into the valleys below. The very earth itself, as now constituted, shall be dissolved. And out of it all shall come new heavens and a new earth whereon dwelleth righteousness” (McConkie, Millennial Messiah, 526–27 as quoted in the Doctrines of the Gospel Institute Manual, Second Coming).

27 3rd Woe – 3rd Appearance To the World
A day and a night and a day without darkness (Zechariah 14:6-7) He will be clothed in red apparel (see D&C 133:46–48; Isaiah 63:2–3; Revelation 19:11–13). The continents will be moved back together and the earth will become smooth (see D&C 88:87; Revelation 16:18– 20;D&C 133:22–24). The wicked will be burned (see Nahum 1:5–10; D&C 133:41; 5:19).

28 3rd Woe – 3rd Appearance To the World
Who gets burned? Why burning? Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble.

29 3rd Woe – 3rd Appearance To the World
Who gets burned? Why burning? Malachi 4:1 “For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble.”

30 Are you free of pride? Are you free from immorality?
Application for Preparation Are you free of pride? Are you free from immorality?

31 When He Comes Again I wonder, when he comes again,
Will herald angels sing? Will earth be white with drifted snow, Or will the world know spring? I wonder if one star will shine Far brighter than the rest; Will daylight stay the whole night through? Will songbirds leave their nests? I’m sure he’ll call his little ones Together ’round his knee, Because he said in days gone by, “Suffer them to come to me.” Words and music: Mirla Greenwood Thayne, 1907–1997 © 1952 by Mirla Greenwood Thayne, Provo, Utah. 32 When He Comes Again I wonder, when he comes again, Will I be ready there To look upon his loving face And join with him in prayer? Each day I’ll try to do his will And let my light so shine That others seeing me may seek For greater light divine. Then, when that blessed day is here, He’ll love me and he’ll say, “You’ve served me well, my little child; Come unto my arms to stay.” Words and music: Mirla Greenwood Thayne, 1907–1997 © 1952 by Mirla Greenwood Thayne, Provo, Utah.
