Established in 2008 10 full-time and 8 part-time staff school year: 90 schools in eight provinces plus national projects Keys to success: identifying partners who want to support Indigenous student achievement implementing unique and effective programs

5 Accounting Mentoring On-going and long-term mentoring of Indigenous youth beginning in Grade 9/10 as they complete high school, attend university 35 high schools across the country Partners: Chartered Accountants of Canada (BDO Dunwoody; Ernst & Young; Grant Thornton; KPMG; Meyers, Norris, Penny), and school boards

6 Legal Mentoring Partner: McCarthy Tetrault in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City Projects began in the school year: North Vancouver, Calgary, and Chateauguay (Quebec) Focus is career mentoring legal profession, accounting, IT, office services, marketing, and legal support Aim: increase high school and university graduation rates in an effort to encourage Indigenous youth to pursue higher levels of education and certification

7 Promising Practices in Indigenous Education Website (PPW)
Virtual library launched in December 2009 updated first Tuesday of each month Over 1300 resources: curriculum, classroom practices, policies, professional development, initiatives and research all related to improving Indigenous student success Focus: Kindergarten to Grade 12, Parent/Community Engagement, Early Childhood, and Current Issues Users: educators, researchers, students, policy developers

8 Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Project (AYEP)
Grade 11 and 12 credit courses Indigenous students learn how to create a product or service-based business as well as financial literacy : 46 secondary schools across Canada Partners include school boards, provincially-funded and Band-operated schools, Indigenous and non-Indigenous business people, banks, provincial governments, industry sectors, and Nelson Education
