SO WHAT IS NBPTS? National Board for Professional Teaching Standards: a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization created in 1987 Offers a voluntary, national assessment program for preK-12 classroom teachers Governed by a board of directors, most of whom are teachers Since 1987 over 100,000 teachers have been certified. Certificates are valid for 5 years. Chris

What Are The Goals Of National Board Certification?
To maintain high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do To provide a national, voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards To advocate related educational reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers NBC is an advanced teaching credential. It complements, but does not replace, your teaching license. Chris

THE FIVE CORE PROPOSITIONS
Teachers are committed to students and their learning. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience. Teachers are members of learning communities. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Qualified applicants must have:
At least 3 years of experience as a preK-12 classroom teacher or school counselor in a public or private school A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution A valid, unencumbered teaching license (or a license to practice as a school counselor if applying for the School Counseling certificate) Chris

This is the design for every teacher that may be interested. The process can begin immediately. Look through the binder, familiarize yourself with the standards and requirements. Set-up a timeline, practice videotaping. Everything is sent to be scored at the end of March. Rigorous 1-3 year process of evidence collecting. Your papers are descriptive, analytical, reflective.

Completion and Cost Flexibility - While teachers can complete the entire certification process in one year, some may choose to do so over three years if that fits better with other demands on a teacher’s time. Affordability - The total cost of certification will decrease from $2500 to $1,900, with each of the four components costing $475. Candidates will have the option to pay for and submit components separately. Two important price points $475 for each component $75 nonrefundable cycle enrollment fee (paid annually)

Funding Break-down: First Course Tuition for 1 course (3 credits): $1,726 Enrollment Fee: $75 National Board Fee: $100
