3 Department of Marine Administration, DMA
1st established before the World War II, in 1930 called Principal Port Office renamed as Mercantile Marine Department in 1959 composed of nine main Divisions and 32 Sub-divisions DMA was first established before the World War II in 1930 and it was at that time, called the Principal Port Office. During the Pre-War Days, it was called Nautical Adviser and Principal Officer, Mercantile Marine Department. In 1959 it was renamed Mercantile Marine Department with effect from 16th March 1972, the present name Department of Marine Administration is used after reorganization and restructured. Currently, DMA is composed of nine main Divisions and 32 Sub-divisions. 3rd APWS HA-DMA

6 DMA’s Policies To conform National Flagged Ships to Safety standards, safe practices and standard of competence required of its marine personal. To promote development of human resources, man-power planning and optimum utilization of such man-power in the maritime sector. To improve the safety record of Myanmar registered ships. 16 Conclusion S2S Platform in association with marine pollution regime, all levels in the Asia-Pacific region have responsible to: formulate integrated water resources planning and management; build better networking, partnerships and international cooperation; share technology, exchange and dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge; and enhance capacity building. National laws should in consistent with international legal instruments All levels in the region should pay attention to succeed the S2S opportunities with the SDG 14 targets The conservation and sustainable use of oceans and their resources should be enhanced The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, entitled “The future we want”. 3rd APWS HA-DMA
