final exam (2 different papers) Listening 20% final exam Reading 20% Translation 10% final exam (reading paper)

3 Grammar! Expect plenty of it!
Good knowledge of grammar allows you to express yourself properly in a language. Verbs are the basis of any language!

4 Talking Talk and conversation of 6-8 minutes in French Worth 30 marks
Done in class and audio-recorded for external verification by SQA

5 Reading Passage in French Answer questions in English
Includes an “overall purpose” question where you will have to answer a yes / no type question about the text and use evidence from the text to support your answer (2 marks) You may use a dictionary 20 marks

6 Translation Translate part of the reading passage in English.
You may use a dictionary 10 marks Reading and translation are Part A of paper 1 and last about 55 minutes

7 Listening Listen TWICE to the French. Broken down into two parts:
part 1: a monologue ( 8 points) – includes an overall purpose question part 2: a dialogue (12 points) Answer questions in English. 20 marks Part A of paper 2 and lasts about 25/30 minutes

8 Directed Writing Part of reading paper
Scenario given in English - always a past experience 4 bullet points that MUST be answered Write 120– 150 words in French Tests past tenses and future / conditional tenses Tests ability to give extended opinions You may use a dictionary 10 marks Directed Writing is part B of paper 1 and lasts about 30 minutes

9 Opinion Writing Written response in French to the listening topic.
Write about 120 – 150 words in French. 3 questions must be answered You may use a dictionary. 10 marks Lasts about 30 minutes This is Part B of paper 2.

11 Unit Assessments You will pass 4 unit assessments
Need to pass one assessment per element (not translation) These will be done throughout the session
