Learning Objectives Define and understand intrapersonal communication. Develop intrapersonal communication skills. Recognize inner resources to understand ourselves and other people.

4 It's as if the mind has a mind of its own!
Group Activity It's as if the mind has a mind of its own! Stay in your seats and do NOTHING for 2 minutes. Close your eyes and try to note your thoughts (pleasant or unpleasant). Share this experience with your group. What were you thinking Did your mind seem unmanageable as you sat quietly? How hard was it to focus your internal communication? One group member share thoughts with the seminar.

5 Communication Interpersonal: communication, which refer to interactions with other people or personalities. Self-Disclosure = Transactive Memory Intrapersonal: communication occur within a person's own mind, it is self-talk!

6 Talking to Oneself

7 Self-talk Intrapersonal Communication is usually unplanned and doesn’t include a clearly defined goal. “Intentional” Intrapersonal Communication is deliberate self-reflection. Intrapersonal Communication is critical for developing your sense of self.

8 Using Self-talk Write down “key” conversations to recall and build on. Consider impact on established personal vision. Use to modify or adjust personal goals. Consider changes to action plan.

9 Affects Inner Resources
Self-talk affects individual qualities such as your: - motivation, - determination, - ethics, - integrity, - altruism, - empathy - sense of humor.

11 Think about the good things about you, there are so many of them!
Use Positive Self talk Think about the good things about you, there are so many of them! Celebrate your past Sing your own praises. Indulge in what makes you happy. Appreciate your life. Let go of your mistakes. Be proud of yourself. Believe in yourself Dive into your passion. Embrace your future Listen to your ideas.

13 Dimensions of Self 3 Dimensions of Self:
Material Self: physical elements that reflect who you are (body, clothes, car, home, etc.) Social Self: the self you see when you are interacting with others (friends, coworkers, spouse/significant other, colleagues) Spiritual Self: introspections about your values, beliefs and morals.

14 Intrapersonal Communication Activity
Of the three basic types of person that make you: Materialistic Social Spiritual Which one of these, if taken away, makes you feel lost! Or in other words, which one best describes you? Share with your group!

15 Your self talk can improve self leadership.
Summary Your self talk can improve self leadership. Take responsibility for your thoughts/self talk in relation to positive intrapersonal communication. Develop positive thinking and recognize negative thoughts. Look inside yourself to be successful and learn from failures.
