HINTS: DON’T wait til the last minute.
NCCTM membership is REQUIRED. NCCTM has converted ALL memberships to run July 1-June 30. The Sept. 30th submission deadline is FIRM. Verify Membership is current in NCCTM, NOT NCTM! ALWAYS use the CURRENT NCCTM coversheet on the website (
15
HINTS: Stay below $600. Shares the funding throughout the region.
If > $600 must provide SSN for an IRS Form MISC and must claim the grant on your personal taxes. If you have a co-applicant, the check will not be split. Checks will NOT be written to your school. They are always written to the recipient and only the recipient.
16

Only the applicant knows this.
17
HINTS: Read all rules. These are on the coversheet as well as within the application materials. Remember ANY member can apply. This includes teachers, administrators, support staff, central office staff and university faculty. Out of state residents can apply IF THEY TEACH IN NORTH CAROLINA!!! I am the only person in the state who can not receive a minigrant. You do not need to reprint the guidelines with your application.
18
PITFALLS/RECOMMENDATIONS:
Too Long 2 page limit enforced by review committee 1 additional page is allowed for the budget only Not a member of NCCTM Please do not confuse NCCTM with NCTM. Membership in one does not include membership in the other. Providing NCTM member number instead of NCCTM member number.
19
PITFALLS/RECOMMENDATIONS:
Not anonymous Enforced by grant coordinator – I do not forward applications that are not anonymous. Missing or Vague Budget Not a WORD document Not tied to mathematics Not for the current school year Coversheet must actually be signed by the administrator. It is then scanned/ ed as a pdf to by the deadline.
20
PITFALLS/RECOMMENDATIONS:
Wrong region If you live in one region and teach in another, use the region you teach in as these are the students impacted by the proposal. Asking for checks to be made payable to the school THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN
21
Curriculum Connections:
The North Carolina Standard Course of Study connections really depend on the individual teacher application and use of the grant. These can be justified on a case by case basis.
22
NCEES Connections: In Standard I, teachers demonstrate leadership both in their school and in their profession by seeking outside sources of funding. Teachers are also advocating for the schools and their students by applying for money to obtain additional resources for their classrooms.
23
NCEES Connections: In Standard IV, the grants allow teachers to plan instruction appropriate for their students with the potential to use a variety of instructional methods, integrate and utilize technology in their instruction, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All of these would require the teacher to communicate effectively with other teachers across their school, district, and potentially their state too.
