1 Leadership characteristics of jesus (part 1)

2 servanthood Matt 20:25-28 Leadership is servanthood
Not to be overbearing but to serve others Phil 2:6 – Jesus humbles Himself to become a human being Jesus shows us the way and does it first

3 Shepherd 1 peter 5:2-3 God asks us to care for others, to be shepherds
Shepherds feed their sheep, care for their sheep, and protect their sheep Don’t lead people for dishonest gain or through manipulation Have the best interest of those you lead

4 humility 1Kings 12:6 Capture people’s hearts – be favourable to them.
Even though you’re a leader, being a servant to others will help them follow you. Become a servant to create those who serve

5 Sacrifice 2 Cor 5:14 Jesus’s death shows us His great love for us
If He would die for us, He asks us to serve others with the same attitude – to do whatever it takes to love others

6 care Phil 2:2-3 Paul asks us to love one another, to be humble, to value others Think of the interests of others, not just our own interests The interest of others isn’t always what they want, but it is what they need

7 Christian vs non-Christian leadership
Self confident vs confident in God – depending on God means always knowing the decision you made was the right one Knows men vs also knows God – good to know man and their hearts, but God gives us greater insight into people’s hearts than man can. Promotion doesn’t depend on who you know if you know God, promotion comes from the Lord (Ps 75:6) Own decisions vs God’s will – God’s will is always right, even when the results seem contrary (Isaac vs Ishmael)

8 Christian vs non-Christian leadership
Ambitious vs self-effacing – ambition can be selfish, desire to accomplish something, regardless of who or what gets trampled along the way. No consideration of others. Self-effacing means focus on others dreams and goals, not just your own (can do both) Own methods vs God’s methods – Man’s methods are full of flaws. God’s methods are flawless. Commands others vs obeys God – understanding authority and being under authority. Doing only what aligns with God and His Word and His principles. Not just a title, but a position of influence for the good of others and to honour God.

9 Christian vs non-Christian leadership
Personal Considerations vs Considers God and others – not just for self convenience and for laziness, but considering the values of God and other people. Solutions that represent Godly values Independent vs God-dependent – identity resting on God and what He says about you instead of your own sense of success or failures. Unphased by success or failure because our identity is dependent on God. Independence means responsibility and culpability for every decision, very stressful
