Learnings from Energy Audits – and how to get value from them ….
Dr. Wendy Buckley Client Director
2
Attitudes to Energy Audits we found split into 3 camps…
‘Doers’ ‘Doubters’ ‘Deniers’ ‘We definitely need to do audits’ ‘We’ve fallen into the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) this time’ ‘We use a lot of energy (HVAC, fuel for vehicles, travel) for our business’ ‘We have a building open to the public’ ‘Not sure we need to do anything and there’s no benefit’ ‘Don’t think there is any legislation that makes us do it’ ‘We’re really small (less than 20 staff)’ ‘We only do office admin type operations’ ‘I’m not really listening – too busy on other stuff’ ‘We’re far too busy with sales and delivery to worry about our energy and carbon’ ‘We’ll just pay the fines if we haven’t complied’

Quick Reminder of Legislative Needs
Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) – companies with over 250 employees or a turnover over Euro 50M AND total balance sheet over Euro 43M Display Energy Certificates (DECs) – buildings >250m2 floor area that are occupied by a public authority and frequently visited by the public Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for Minimum Energy Performance Standards (April 2018) Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) – companies using over 6,000 MWh) electricity through half-hourly meters (HHMs) Climate change levy (CCL) – steep increase from April 2019
