The battle of troy, it was a long and gruesome war between the Greeks warriors against the people of troy. The strife began because of an argument between the goddesses Athena, Hera and Aphrodite, after the goddess of strife and discord, Eris, gave them a golden apple, also known as the Apple of Discord, marked "for the fairest". The goddesses were sent to Paris by Zeus; Paris said that since Aphrodite was the “fairest", she should receive the apple. For exchange, Aphrodite made Helen the most beautiful of all women and make wife of Menelaus, fall in love with Paris, who took her to Troy.

After the Trojan prince Paris abducted Helen, wife of Menelaus of Sparta. When Menelaus demanded her return, the Trojans refused. So he persuaded his brother to lead an army against Troy. Troopships gathered, led by the greatest Greek heroes—Achilles, Odysseus, Nestor, and the two warriors named Ajax. The initial attempt to get her back was purely diplomatic but after their refusal that was when war was declared.

After constant fearsome battling The Greek Odysseus came up with a cunning idea, he decided to attempt to trick the enemy by building a colossal wooden horse which had been built hollow so Greek soldiers could hide inside it in the hope they would accept this as a gift and drag it inside. As this was done the rest of the Greek fleets sailed away, so to the Trojans it seemed like they had finished fighting.

The Trojans had no idea that Greek soldiers were hidden inside, under the command of Odysseus. The Greeks had been fighting with Troy for nine long years, but suddenly it looked like their whole army had departed, leaving the horse behind

That night, while the Trojans slept, Odysseus and his men emerged from the horse's belly. Opening the city gates, they admitted their comrades, who had snuck back in the dark. Under the cover of dark the killed all of the men as they were basking in glory because they thought the war was finally finished with and so Troy was sacked and the Trojans utterly vanquished.

Now it was time for Odysseus and his fellow warriors to return to their kingdoms across the sea. Here begins the tale of the Odyssey. Reluctant he may have been to join the expedition, Odysseus fought heroically in the Trojan War, refusing to leave the field when the Greek troops were being over run by the Trojans, and leading a daring nocturnal raid in company with his fellow men. He was also the leader in the construction and idea of the Trojan horse, the plot by which the Greeks were finally able to take the city of Troy itself.
