There are main “styles” of room in Fulbright College. These “styles” contain mostly the same types of equipment (PC, Document Camera, Annotation, laptop hookup), but the difference is in how those parts are put together and how it is controlled.
Even though podiums physically look different (we’re improving that), the only real difference is in how you control it. Remembr that the different control systems are doing the same function– switching what source is sent to the projector and the speakers. This guide is meant to illustrate these different controls. It moves from the most complex controls (Honor’s College Style) and moves to least complex (Plug and Teach).

Honor’s College Style – The very oldest of this style. Still the same equipment as other rooms, but notice this has two screens– one for the control panel and one as a preview screen.
There are only a couple of these left.

Some designs are unique to the classroom, such as this podium in KIMP Despite the change of podium style, it has the same equipment and is controlled similarly to other Honor’s style rooms.

If the screen is dark when you enter the room, tap the screen to wake up the podium. You can then touch anywhere to begin.

8. Honors College Style - Controls
Select your desired source from left had panel.
This will show your selecte source in the top preview screen. If you need, you can enter full screen here to make sure everything looks as you desire.
To power on the projector tap the Red bar that reads “Projector is OFF”. NOTE: the OFF and ON buttons above this bar do not control power to the projector, but the blank function on the projector.
To show your source over the projector tap the “Switch” button on the top preview screen. This moves the image to the bottom Audience Screen, and your source will then display on the projector. Press annotate to get a full screen preview, with annotation screen.
Volume Controls on bottom right.
If PC is off or to retrieve microphones, press the FRONT and SIDE buttons to unlock the doors to the podium.
To end your class press the End of Class Button

9. Honors College Style - Annotation
After switching your source to Audience and viewing it on the projector, you can press the annotate button to enter full screen. There will be a bar such as the one above with annotation tools.
Pretty self explanatory– pen, highlighter, clear, etc.
If the bar is in your way, you can use the Move button and the Minimize Button.
When you’re ready to leave full screen, press Exit.

10. Honors College Style - Controls
Choosing sources such as Doc Cam or DVD or VCR will pull up on screen menus (similar to a remote control).
You can also control the device directly (as in use the buttons on the VCR).

Campus Standard was developed by smart room technicians from all colleges, and faculty, staff, and administration from a diverse group across campus. This Smart Room Committee approves changes to this standard design.
Has a wider array of features from the Honor’s College.
Equipment is stored in the server rack under the table.
The table is ADA certified, and can raise and lower using the up and down buttons under the table.

12. Campus Standard Controls
This is the SP Control Panel (as compared to the touch screen control panel of the Honor’s College Style).
Press ON to turn the system on. This will turn on the projector and on-table display.
Use the source buttons in the center to change display. Video is for special devices like VCRs that may be brought in. HDMI is a digital input for devices such as the ipad.
Voiume controls on left. Might need to press and hold to notice changes.
Mute button mutes the audio. Blank button sends a blank signal through the projector.
Use the Screen buttons if necessary to control the screen (additional controls for the screen will be located on the wall)

13. Campus Standard Light

Campus Standard Light stripped out some feautres of the Campus Standard.
Still uses a smaller ADA certified table, Document Camera, Annotation Screen, Dual Booting Mac Mini. But no digital inputs, blu-ray player, a simplified audio system. No integration with screen or projector. Must control these manually.
All equipment, except for subwoofer, mounted under table.

14. Campus Standard Light - Controls
Use the remote to turn on Projector (A).
Use the Blank Button (B) if you want to send a blank signal without powering off and on the projector (this can take a minute or two for it to warm up and cool down).
Use the KVM switch (top right) to change inputs. Note that you can change audio and video separately (as in, have audio from your laptop, with video from the provided mac mini).
Control the volume from your device’s volume controls, such as the windows volume button.

15. Using the Document camera Campus Standard Campus Standard Light
Switch to the document camera source using the SP Controls (Campus Standard) or the KVM (Campus Standard Light).
Power on the Document Camera by pressing and holding the power button (B). The power indicator light will turn on.
Focus the camera by pressing the focus button once (it will focus automatically).
Control the lights by pressing the lamp button.
Zoom, if desired, by using the zoom buttons.
Press and hold the power button to turn off the document camera.

To connect your laptop, you will need three cables.
These cables should be provided in your location, but tend to sprout legs. User’s are strongly encouraged to provide their own cables or check them out from their respective departments.
They are very cheap and easily available from the campus bookstore.
If a user arrives to class and realizes he has forgotten his cables, Fulbright Smart Room Support will be glad to loan the necessary cables.

17. Plug and Teach
Features: Projector Internet connectivity via the uark.edu network In-room audio system
Plug and Teach is the simplest version of a technology room. There will be either a table or a stand on which the user can place his laptop.
The laptop is plugged in to a wall plate (or using provided cables) with the corresponding cables.
The projector can be powered on using the provided remote control. Volume control is achieved through the device’s volume controls.

18. Crash Cart Common Features Computer Speakers Projector

All crash carts are connected by plugging in an attached power cable and an attached ethernet cable.
After plugging in the unit align the cart in front of the screen, power on the computer and projector.
Different carts have different capabilities depending on how much we were able to spend at the time on it. The style of cart shown above has an included document camera and a dual booting mac mini. Other carts only have a PC and projector. We will be on hand to assist if the use of a crash cart is necessary.
