What is Early College? How Does It Work?
Small Public High School Students from all over the county Located on the Brunswick Community College Campus Students can earn a high school diploma and an associate degree or up to two years of college transfer credit No Cost/Equivalent to a $28, Scholarship Students apply for admission Summer Bridge Day – attendance is required Students take high school core courses College classes also count for high school credit (Dual Credit)

How is it Similar to Traditional High School?
Will receive a high school diploma The same testing/curriculum requirements as any NC public school Bus transportation is provided Lunch is served by BCS school lunch program Many clubs are offered including Prom, Yearbook, Science Olympiad, SGA, Music, Sports, and Art

How is it Different from Traditional High School?
Designed to be a five-year program with possibility of completing in four years Different calendar/based on BCC calendar 8:00 am - 3:20 pm school day Monday - Thursday 8:00 am – 3:00 pm school day 2 Fridays a month Two Firebird Fridays provided each month for required Community Service/Volunteering No athletics, band, or JROTC. Students may not participate in these activities at another high school.

High School Focus on Core Courses - Math, Science, English, Social Studies Taught by high school teachers Honors-level high school courses Innovative teaching, student- centered, non-traditional schedule Read, write, think, and talk daily to advance learning Hands-on, problem-solving instruction Built in tutoring/Smart Lunch 1 to 1 Chromebook Initiative Seminar/Personalized learning plans Nightly Homework Dress for Success and Firebird Pride Day Clubs, Intramurals, Dances, Prom, Talent Shows, Quarterly Celebrations, Spirit Week, Competitions

College College courses are taught by BCC Instructors
Students attend college classes with traditional college students College courses count for high school credit

Associate in Engineering (AE) Transferable to all state colleges and universities Can be earned in 5 years with a possibility of earning in 4 years Can choose to enter 4 year institution with transferable credits only

How to Apply Applications are available online the week of February 5 at bcswan.net then select Early College High School Middle school counselor determines the date your Application Submission Confirmation Form is due at your middle school. All paperwork due to ECHS by March 7. Late or incomplete applications will not be processed by BCECHS
