1 Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral
Unit 1: Introduction to media processes and technical skills Assessor: Jane Parr Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria Student name: Joseph Billson Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Apply understanding of a range of processes to support media activities.  X Your annotations show that you have some understanding of the technical requirements when using a DSLR camera. You need to practice more with the camera Joe so that your images will be of better quality in the future. 1.2 Apply media processes and skills safely and appropriately.  X You have shown that you can apply media processes safely and your final outcomes are of a satisfactory standard. You have 2 good images here Joe, your environmental portrait and your image for the front cover. However, you need to crop the image of Park Hill flats to fit a magazine front cover and the image of ice would not be acceptable as a news image to illustrate the weather as it is not immediately conveying the content. A better picture would be someone scraping the ice off the car windscreen....human interest is always good in news images. 2.1 Critically compare a range of communication methods used to convey meaning in creative media production.  You have not shown in your annotations that you understand how images can be used to convey meaning in photojournalism. Where is your blog comparing 3 newspaper front pages? This was the first session we did annotating the imagery and headlines used on the front pages of 3 different newspapers ie, national tabloid (The Sun, The Mirror, The Daily Mail), national broadsheet (The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph) and a regional or local one (Sheffield Star, Lancashire Evening Post, Yorkshire Post, Evening Standard etc).
