Unit 2: Introduction to design and research skills in creative media production Assessor: Shelina Mawani-Markin Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria; Student name: Ryan-Lee Masser Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Critically compare a range of research tools, methods and skills.         x You have demonstrated a good understanding Ryan of the purpose and role of research in the journalism industry. You have evaluated different research tools and methods aused by journalists. You have developed the discussion to include examples. To develop this to a higher standard you need to9 discuss in more depth and analyse in more detail. For example, to illustrate the multimedia skills required by journalists you could used the BBC website as I suggested. 2.1 Critically compare a range of primary and secondary research sources. AS above 3.1 Apply design and research tools, methods and skills to record and interpret information and develop ideas for creative production.  Research portfolio incomplete. All you have done is submit copy and pasted articles you found on the internet – no summary of what the articles are saying and no primary research. You have submitted some more evidence now. I have passed this research portfolio. However, it is barely a pass and would not be sufficient to pass the research component on the FMP. 3.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of design and research tools methods and skills.  Cannot mark your evaluation until I have seen your research portfolio I have passed your evaluation but, again, you needed to include much more detail. You have mentioned some issues but have not discussed how you might have improved the quality of your research. Has the student passed the Unit? Ryan, you have summarised journalistic theory concisely, and have discussed, to some extent, how you applied that theory. I feel that you could have discussed in more detail the strengths and weaknesses of your use of this theory. You needed to reflect in more detail on how well you followed the rules.  2.1  Apply knowledge of working practices to support own development See feedback on your portfolio submissions on Wordpress 3.1 Organise self and work to meet deadlines and targets. You continually worked in a manner that enabled you to meet deadlines – an essential skill for a journalist. 3.2 . Demonstrate consideration and professionalism in working with others.
