1 Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral
Unit 1: Introduction to media processes and technical skills Assessor: Jane Parr Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria Student name: William Kearns Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Apply understanding of a range of processes to support media activities. Your annotations show that you have some understanding of the technical requirements when using a DSLR camera. 1.2 Apply media processes and skills safely and appropriately.  X Your final outcomes do not meet the standard required to pass this criteria. You have submitted 2 images which are of a reasonable standard but the Environmental Portrait does not meet the standard required and therefore you need to reshoot this and present an image which communicates with the reader about the subject. 2.1 Critically compare a range of communication methods used to convey meaning in creative media production.  You have not shown in your annotations that you understand how images can be used to convey meaning in photojournalism. You need to include 2 more newspaper front pages in your first blog as one is not enough. You also need to look at examples of environmental portraiture in your image research. Had you done this you may well have understood what is meant by environmental portraiture to help you with your own ideas. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Add 2 more comparisons of newspaper front pages. Research environmental portraiture and reshoot your final outcome for this. Date: 11th June 2014

You could also analysed the skills an online BBC journalist might need as I had suggested. 2.1 Critically compare a range of primary and secondary research sources. As above 3.1 Apply design and research tools, methods and skills to record and interpret information and develop ideas for creative production.  YOUR RESEARCH PORTFOLIO HAS NOT BEEN ADDED TO YOUR UNIT 2 MENU. You have submitted evidence of having carried out primary and secondary research but there is no discussion of the results. 3.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of design and research tools methods and skills.  You have made a good attempt to evaluate your research methods. You have discussed strengths and weaknesses. To develop this, instead of only pointing out that you could used a larger sample size for your questionnaire, you could also evaluate if using other primary methods would have more useful e.g. focus groups.
