3 How to find your pulse 2 areas – common Carotid artery (neck) or radial (wrist) Use your pointer & middle finger – no thumbs Count for 6 seconds & add a zero to the end

4 Resting heart rate Is taken when your body is at rest – best time is as soon as you wake up Should be between beats/min Certain factors can cause an elevated resting heart rate such as: stress Caffeine medicine

5 Target heart rate Taken during exercise Should be between 120- 180
If your heart rate is above your target zone, decrease your rate of exercise. If your heart rate is below your target zone, increase your rate of exercise

6 Recovery heart rate Taken after exercise – once a cool down is completed Recovery heart rate is a measure of cardiovascular fitness – the quicker your heart rate returns to your resting rate, the more conditioned your body/heart is Should be within beats of your resting heart rate
