How to find your pulse 2 areas – common Carotid artery (neck) or radial (wrist) Use your pointer & middle finger – no thumbs Count for 6 seconds & add a zero to the end

Resting heart rate Is taken when your body is at rest – best time is as soon as you wake up Should be between beats/min Certain factors can cause an elevated resting heart rate such as: stress Caffeine medicine

Target heart rate Taken during exercise Should be between 120- 180
If your heart rate is above your target zone, decrease your rate of exercise. If your heart rate is below your target zone, increase your rate of exercise

Recovery heart rate Taken after exercise – once a cool down is completed Recovery heart rate is a measure of cardiovascular fitness – the quicker your heart rate returns to your resting rate, the more conditioned your body/heart is Should be within beats of your resting heart rate
