3 S3 Broad General Education
At the end of S2, pupils will make a choice. They will study up to 8 subjects and this will be within the curricular areas. S3 will also follow a skills based courses for 2 blocks a week. Overall the number of people employed in ICT and digital technology roles is forecast to increase by 15% to 84,000 by At the same time, the profile of the current workforce is ageing. The proportion of 16 to 24 year olds working in Scotland as IT & telecoms professionals is half that of other occupations. This creates exciting job opportunities as there is a need to replace those employees leaving the sector, as well meeting the demand from future growth. Forecasts from e-Skills UK suggest that there could be as many as 11,000 job opportunities each year in ICT and digital technology roles. Growth areas-software development, software engineering and web development. Energy: growth areas: oil and gas, offshore wind. The majority of jobs will be at technician level in areas such as engineering, diving and welding Financial Services: The highest volumes of future demand for entry level roles were in customer services, sales and technical roles in investment operations The highest volumes of future demand for experienced roles were in investment operations, customer service and actuarial roles Food & Drink: shortages of butchers and people wanting to work in agriculture Creative Industries: TV; film; radio; interactive media; animation; content for computer games; facilities; photo-imaging; publishing; advertising; commercials and promotions; and corporate production. TV production in Scotland is projected to grow over the next three to five years. Also, behind the scenes roles in theatre and music performance are real growth sectors Tourism: High-end chefs remain one of the hardest roles to fill, along with housekeepers Life Sciences: The industry also wants to encourage people aged 16–24 to consider careers in engineering, science and manufacturing. Some of the job roles expected to increase in the next two to three years include Research assistantsTechnician level staff Engineers Production and process technicians Sales and marketing staff

A charity set up and governed by senior business leaders The aim is to raise students aspirations and bridge the gap between education and work by giving them access to real experience (skills for learning, life & work) It is a two year programme during S5 & S6 for middle- achieving students aged which offers a business mentor for two years and 4 weeks paid work experience in the summer between S5 and S6

16 Edinburgh College College courses provide the opportunity for pupils to study a course at college as part of their school timetable Courses range from Higher Psychology to a range of more vocational courses and more recently foundation apprenticeship courses Information is available in school On the option form college runs in Column C

20 For S3 a pupil should be currently doing the subject in S3 to have a chance of being successful at N5. For S4/5 a Target Grade of a C5 or better will allow the pupil to progress to the next level during coursing.
