They will create a MLK mobile craft based on the information they have learned.

Let’s Read “Snow” Many Books Display Students will have the opportunity to read a variety of winter related books. January 9 – 19, 2017 Math: How many “snowflakes” are there?  Contest Students will have the opportunity to estimation how many marshmallows are in a jar. January 9 – 26, 2017 Coding Activities Activities Students will participate in the use of Bee-Bots. Students will program the Bee-bot by using codes to make it move (learn directions, planning, sequence, counting, team work, estimation, and problem-solving). Top Readers are selected based on AR points, and teacher recommendations. 01/18/18 Elementary Battle of the Books Competition: Book Reading Competition Students will compete with other elementary students in the district in a book reading contest called Battle of the Books. 1/22-26th Scholastic Book Fair Activities: Literacy Promotion; Fundraiser Students, staff, and parents have the opportunity to view and purchase some of the latest books being published by attending the Scholastic Book Fair. Funds raised help our school accumulate Scholastic Dollars to purchase incentives, books, and other library supplies.   1/23/18 Literacy Night Promoting Literacy; Community Event Library staff, teachers, host a literacy night that allows parents and students to participate in Read Alouds, crafts, and activities correlated to the campus curriculum and focuses on science, reading, math, etc. Hours of Operations: Monday – Friday 7:00 A.M. – 4:15 P.M.

Book display and promotion will create awareness of the season and holidays/important days being celebrated during this time of the year. It also allows students to see the patterns followed as the months go by and seasons change. Jan Jan. 19 Martin Luther King Day National Holiday Celebration Bring awareness about the celebration of MLK day and why it is celebrated. Students will learn about the Biography section in the library and what it offers. Jan. 18 Battle of the Books Reading and Book Promotion Students will learn about Battle of the Books, read a short story book and compete against each other to see who knows the story better. Jan. 24 Visiting Author – Lucas Miller Author Visit Students will enjoy listening to visiting author – John Lucas Miller. Lucas Miller give students a positive introduction to science that leaves them excited, confident and curious. They’ll learn about photosynthesis, monarch butterfly migrations, ocean ecology, native wildlife and much more at Lucas Miller’s multimedia science experiences. Students will certainly be wanting to check more science books out. Jan Jan. 31 Make it Snow Much Fun at the Library Library Activities Read stories about snowy, winter days and create snowmen and winter scenes. Hours of Operations: Monday – Friday A.M. – P.M.

Dec. 4 – Dec. 20 Winter Wonderland Display Activity: Display and present books on Winter activities around the world A book display of winter activities/games on the practiced in different countries. Dec. 18 Book It! Pizza Hut Activity: Students who meet their reading goals get rewarded. A personal pan pizza voucher is given to all students who meet their AR goal by the end of the month. A.R. Celebration Activity: Students come and have lunch in the library. A celebration for all students that have met their A.R. goal for the 3rd 6Weeks. Students will come in to watch a movie while they enjoy their lunch with the librarian. Snacks will be provided. Dec. 20 Winter Festival Activity: Board Games and Video Games Students will be participating in board games and video games in the library. Ongoing Guessing Jar Activity: Estimation game for all students to participate. Just for fun: A jar with goodies is displayed in the library monthly and carries on a holiday theme. Students are allowed to guess how many goodies are in the jar. At the end of the month, the student with the correct or closest amount wins the jar with the goodies. They will read books in January, accumulate a total of 6 hours of reading, and receive a free entrance ticket to Six Flags in May. 1/29-1/31/18 Book Fair Book Fair to promote the love of reading in our students. The book fair will be held from Monday-Friday, 7:20 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Students will come and purchase popular children’s books at the book fair. Hours of Operation Monday– Friday 7:15 A.M. – 4:15 P.M.
