PABLO RUIZ PICASSO THE LIFE OF AN ARTIS
2
My name is Pablo Ruiz Picasso, and I was born in Malaga in 1881.
My father was an art teacher, and I loved painting and drawing.
3
When I was 14, I made this drawing of The Firts Comunion of my sister
When I was 14, I made this drawing of The Firts Comunion of my sister. And this Portrait of Aunt Pepa. Do you like them?
4
When I was 19, I went to Paris with my friend Carlos Casagemas.
There we knew the works, scupltures and paintings of the “modernist” artists. We learned a lot!!
5
My friend Carlos died, and I was really sad.
I wanted to express all this sadness… What colour could express how sad I was? Find out!
6
In this BLUE PERIOD, I painted long, lonely and sad people, homeless…
And everything was blue Two sisters (1902)
7
Can you feel the sadness?
Breakfast of a blind man (1903) Can you feel the sadness? The old guitarist (1903)
8
Sometime later, I felt in LOVE and started painting everything in pink.
9
In this period, I also painted lots of things related to the CIRCUS: harlequins, acrobats…
11
I started to make things similar to the AFRICAN MASKS
One day I visited a museum of African art, and I loved it… I started to make things similar to the AFRICAN MASKS I had seen.
12
Can you see they are similar??
13
Les Demoisselles D’Avignon
All the influences leaded me to paint a very important picture (or so they say): Les Demoisselles D’Avignon
14
With the help of my friedn George Braque, we invented a new way of painting things: CUBISM
We began painting figures that were made up of cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and other geometric shapes. Three Musicians
15
I also made some portraits, painting the faces from the front and from one side at the same time. So I put the eyes, mouths and noses where I wanted.
16
There was a Civil War in Spain, and my friends told me the dissasters of war. Inspired on this, I painted “The Guernica”.
17
One of my drawings became the mundial simbol for PEACE.
When World War II started, I moved to the south of France, and started painting as a child, thanks to the sun, and the sea. One of my drawings became the mundial simbol for PEACE. I was very famous and popular, and lots of people came to see me. So I moved to a castle far away form people.

“Everything you can imagine is real”
I died in 1973, when I was 92. During my life I said things like: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up” “Everything you can imagine is real” “I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them” “I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money”
