Marine Crew Services and Marine Bulk Carriers are South African shipping companies based in Cape Town. MBC and MCS are one of the leading BEE companies in offshore sector, in Crewing and Training of Seafarers in South African.

FOUNDERS Marine Crew Services South Africa and Marine Bulk Carriers South Africa were established in 2003 by a group of experienced executives in shipping : Mr. Robert Knutzen, ex.CEO of Golden Ocean Group Mr. Jan Rabie, ex .CEO of Safmarine International Mr. Lester Peteni, Chairman, of Sizwe Shipping Investments Ms Deanna Collins, Marine Personnel Executive, Safmarine The objectives were to focus on job creation and skills development in shipping operations, marine training and placement. Bulk Shipping of iron ore and coal was a joint-venture with Sanko Steamship of Japan between 2005 and 2009 Offshore focused on providing services to PetroSA since 2006 Crewing and training operations have been active since 2004. both are well known in shipping industry.

OFFSHORE: Since 2006 MBC have secured 20 contracts with PetroSA for the provision of AHTS tugs to support offshore installations and rigs MBC has secured several contracts with PetroSA in provision of AHTS tugs to support the FA platform, the FPSO ORCA and a drilling rig Pride South Seas:

MCS is actively engaged in capacity building for marine personnel across Africa
Over 3000 candidates have been assisted as Cadets, Officers or Ratings since 2004. More than 2,500 seafarer jobs opportunities have being created for South Africans and other African countries like Angola, Nigeria, Namibia, Congo and Ghana. We achieved a 94% pass rate for Officers of the Watch and Ratings Graduates and we have trained over 1000 South African, Angolan, Nigerian, Namibian ,Ghanaian Cadets and Ratings. All these cadets are sponsored by oil majors .South African cadets are sponsored by South African government.

Our successes continued….
We have trained Artisans for Angolan Clients, 36 graduated artisans are now employed in the offshore industry. 250 Angolan cadets and ratings have been graduated and are now part of the thriving offshore industry in Angola. MCS has trained and graduate Congolese and Nigerian cadets who are now completing their seatime in their respective countries. MCS has the largest number of black, female cadets serving in the offshore industry on-board deep-sea anchor handling tugs supply. MCS implemented the MCS-RKO Nigerian Cadet Training Programme in 2014.

TRANSNET –The future of marine personnel: Training of future tug masters and pilots is paramount. MCS has been assigned a duty to train cadets on behalf of TNPA. 140 students under our management. The CSI (Corporate Social Investment) group are recruited straight from high school. MCS is responsible for the entire process: enrolment, registration, all academic activities at maritime Univerisities CPUT (Cape Town) or DUT (Durban). The CPD (Continuous Professional Development) students are all Officers who have completed the cadetship programme and are in possession of the 1st level Qualification (OOW). These officers need to accumulate additional sea time for the next qualification or attending the theoretical phases to obtain the next level of qualification.

SAIMI (South African International Maritime Institute – 64 students under our management
A South African government project to financially support maritime graduates to complete the seatime component. Under this programme we do the entire Recruitment & Selection process. The entry level criteria is a full S2 with good academic record. We conduct interviews on an annual basis and travel to the various provinces respectively. The programme covers all mandatory medicals, safety courses, on- board books (Flag state seaman's record books and Cadet Training record book), repatriation costs, VISAS, Protective gear, cadet monthly allowances and MCS monthly management fees.

AFRICAN CONTINENT CLIENTS
OSM - REPUBLIC OF CONGO MCS is the first South African company to be involved in this pilot project. OSM endeavours to develop future Officers and requested the services of MCS to guide and facilitate the entire programme. All students are currently completing their seatime before attempting the SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) Oral examination to obtain their 1st Qualification (OOW). RK OFFSHORE IN NIGERIA- These cadets are currently completing the sea time component in order to go for the SAMSA Oral examination. The Nigerian cadets all serve on-board the RK8 vessels in Nigeria. SONASURF IN LUANDA, ANGOLA The Sonasurf Officers are all returning students, who qualified through MCS a few years ago. They have now returned to complete their academic phase to undertake the next level qualification and the actual SAMSA Oral examination. OPS IN LUANDA, ANGOLA These students are all returning students who are in the process of completing the academic phase of the next level qualification. We also get many short term requests from them to assist their students with SAMSA accredited safety courses and Oral examinations.

Crew certification is checked and verified prior to vessel appointment. Ensure compliance with all flag state requirements. In addition to negotiated crew wages, MCS applies a standard Monthly Management Fee. Upon client approval, flight arrangements are made and any visa requirements are applied for. Safety Gear (PPE) is ordered and issued to the individual. Induction is conducted before joining the vessel. + MCS supplies crew to ship owners. Crew certification is checked and verified prior to appointment. Ensure compliance with all flag state requirements.
