Hydraulic System Review -Recap- 29.Sep 2017
Conclusions: 10 types of oil systems, this number needs to be reduced Difficult to reach a standard system with such a variety of configurations & energy dissipations Instrumentation level needs to be studied. AD-Elena example seems reasonable 4 CPS hydraulic systems to be upgraded: KFA45, KFA71-79, KFA28, ISOLDE 3 SPS hydraulic systems to be consolidated (instrumentation): MKD, MKE6, MKQ Open points: Control systems not compatible between PS/SPS and LHC Sensors / actuator technologies are different on several installation included the last consolidation L. Two different principles of oil circulation systems:
PS - Circulation SPS - Circulation Hydraulic unit Generator 1 Generator 2 Generator 3 PS circulation: This circulation principle is built on a main unit that supplies multiple switches. SPS – Circulation: In this system each switch is connected to an individual unit. Hydraulic unit Generator 1 Hydraulic unit Generator 2 Hydraulic unit Generator 3 L. Govertsen TE-ABT-KSC 11/12/2017

Problems that were addressed :
• Cost & manpower • Avoid system overdesign • Minimize instrumentation and types • Slave/Main reservoirs • Ideally 2 models to be used for future installation : AD, LHC-MKI • Next systems : KFA 45 (2018 and LS2), KFA 71-79, KFA 28, ISOLDE (post LS2) • No resources to rework on systems already consolidated over the past years L. It was decided to go for a semi automatic system, TYPE I.
Strategy for KFA45: Analyze KFA45 system and compare to similar type of systems. G H J LHC MKI TMR PS KFA71 Gen PSB EK Gen AD ELENA Gen I TYPE I and TYPE J were discussed with the standardization of future hydraulic systems in mind. It was decided to go for a semi automatic system, TYPE I. Arguments: Built on already used and tested components Already known and tested design and functionality, hydraulic and control system Hands on experience High adaptive capacity Easy maintenance Spare parts availability Control system Hardware (sensors) unification as on AD-ELENA.
