25 Course Essential Question 1 Day 1
What is an ensemble? Course Essential Question 1 Day 1

26 What do the following quotes have in common?
“Most great learning happens in groups. Collaboration is the stuff of growth.” “No matter what accomplishments you make, somebody helped you.” “The nice thing about teamwork is that you always have others on your side.” “None of us is as smart as all of us.” “You need three things in the theatre—the play, the actors and the audience, and each must give something.”

27 What is an ensemble? They all focus on teamwork!
Ensemble - a group of people working together to accomplish a common goal.

28 What does it mean to be in an ensemble?
Every member of the ensemble shines together during performances, there are no single “stars”. Creating an environment where everyone belongs and is equal. Creating an environment where everyone feels free to express themselves without judgment. Creating an environment where everyone on stage works towards the same goal. Every member of the ensemble communicates ideas and feelings and are all on the same page.

29 How do you create an ensemble on stage?
Look and Listen The ensemble actor always has their eyes and ears open while on stage. They are focused an engaged at all times. Support The ensemble actor is focused so they are ready to give support when something unexpected happens to their fellow actor on stage. Be A Community Ensemble actors work together and build a community for each project. There are no single “stars”.

30 Accountability To make sure our ensemble is working the best it possibly can, we have to create and follow classroom rules. There are 2 sets of rules in this class. Classroom Rules – Created by Ms. Rose Ensemble Rules – Created by you!

31 Ms. Rose’s Classroom Rules
D – Develop and communicate ideas in a collaborative and cooperative way. R – Respect others and the space. A – Always try your best and leave the drama for the stage. M – Maintain focus and accountability. A – Always show audience etiquette. Notice these rules focus on how we build our ensemble!

32 Ensemble Rules Take a minute and brainstorm ensemble rules you would like to have for this class. Think about what kinds of things bother you in other classes? What kinds of things do we want to make sure don’t happen in this class? When you are ready, write a rule or personality trait that you want in our ensemble next to each letter. Everyone will need to contribute at least one rule to the list.

33 Silent Birthday Circle
Goal: SILENTLY arrange yourselves in a circle in chronological order of your birthday. Time: 5 minutes! Before you go: How will you work together to communicate your birthday using just your body? After it’s done: How did you feel not being able to use your voice? Use this activity if you have additional time left over. Otherwise, introduce this activity in lesson 2.

34 Exit Slip Write a text to a friend about how you think this class will be different from your other classes. Include 3 things you learned, 2 things you think are interesting, and one question. Feel free to use your regular “text language” and include emoji’s!

35 What is an ensemble? Day 2

36 Journal Describe a time when you were part of a team or a group and it didn’t go so well. What do you think would have helped?

37 Strengthening our Ensemble
What is an ensemble? A group of people working together as a supportive whole to accomplish a common goal. How do we strengthen our ensemble? Being more comfortable with one another will allow us to be more creative and express ourselves.

38 Strengthening our Ensemble
Activity – Kitty in a Corner Activity – Honey Do You Love Me Activity – Group “Up” Activity – One Word Story Activity – Silent Guard Activity – Human Knot

39 Exit Slip Do you feel as though we grew as an ensemble today? Why or why not? Give at least 2 examples from class to support your answer.
