Myth or Fact? A pregnant woman doesn’t need to visit the doctor until she begins to show, or look pregnant. MYTH Regular doctor visits from the beginning of pregnancy until birth are recommended to ensure health.

9. Monitoring Tools
Ultrasound High-frequency sound waves used to create an image of a developing fetus. (takes a “picture”) Amniocentesis a prenatal test in which a small amount of amniotic fluid is removed and tested for abnormalities. Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) a prenatal test in which a piece of the developing placenta is removed and tested for inherited disorders.

10. Problems in Pregnancy
Miscarriage – death of an embryo or fetus in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Natural – body rejects defective embryo
Unnatural – from infections, vitamin deficiency, accident, drug use
Stillbirth – when a fetus dies and is expelled from the body after the 20th week of pregnancy.
Ectopic Pregnancy
Preeclampsia
Gestational Diabetes

Problems in Pregnancy
Danger signs in pregnancy:
- vaginal bleeding
- swelling of face or fingers
- severe, continuous headache
- blurry vision
- pain in abdomen
- persistent vomiting
chills/fever
sudden escape of water from vagina
Any of these symptoms should be referred to a doctor immediately!
