2 Anotace Didaktický materiál je určen především žákům 4. ročníků maturujících z anglického jazyka. Prezentace obsahuje téma určené k ústní části maturitní zkoušky. Očekávaný výstup: Studenti by měli být schopni aplikovat získané znalosti jak v jejich ústním, tak písemné projevu.

4 LONDON the capital and the largest city of England and the United Kingdom located on the river Thames in southeast England the seat of government one of the world´s leading commercial and culture centres the first city hosted the modern Summer Olympic games three times

5 LONDON population is about 8 million people cosmopolitan city
Consists of three parts: the city of London is the oldest part of the town there are a lot of monuments in the City the West End is famous for its shops, cinemas and theatres the East End is an industrial area

6 LONDON there are three international airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted) underground system is the oldest tube system in the world typical are red double-decker buses the great fire destroyed almost of the city in 1666 the weather is mild but it can be unpredictable foggy days are very common

7 TOURISTS INTERESTS The Tower Bridge is a symbol of London. The Bridge crosses the river Thames The City of Westminster is a centre of political life of Great Britain. Big Ben is the bell of the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. The tower is 96 meters high London Eye is an observation wheel across the river Thames. It was built to celebrate the new millenium

8 TOURISTS INTERESTS Westminster Abbey is a place where many English kings and queens have been buried. It is a site of coronations Buckingham Palace is a home of the Queen. Some parts of the Palace have been opened to the public. Every day tourists can see the Changing the Guard ceremony No. 10, Downing Street is the official seat of the Prime Minister, it is near to Houses of Parliament

9 TOURISTS INTERESTS Trafalgar Square is a square in the centre of London and it is named after the battle of Trafalgar. There is a Nelson´s column in the middle of the square. Kew Garden is a royal botanic garden Hyde Park is the largest green park in London The Regent ´s Park is one of the London´s Royal Park. There is a Zoo.

10 TOURISTS INTERESTS The National Gallery is situated in the Trafalgar square.It has one of the richest collections of paintings There is the British Museum, the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum Sherlock Holmes museum at 221b Baker Street. It is home of Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson The Madame Tussaud´s Museum with wax figures of famous people

11 TOURIST INTERESTS Harrods is one of the largest department stores in the world The Globe Theatre is a similar reconstruction of Shakespeare´s origin theatre British Library is one of the largest libraries in the world Piccadily Circus is a place of London´s nightlife. It is situated in the West End
