Provide students with a high quality college preparatory education and in- depth exposure to career possibilities in the field of law, law enforcement, and criminal justice through hands-on, experiential programs and activities. 2

4 Law Academy Environment
Atmosphere of focused learning allows students, teachers, parents, and professionals to develop unique bonds, both personal and professional, over the course of the four year program.

5 Career Opportunities Students are exposed to many career opportunities, including, but not limited to: Attorney Judge Court Reporter Governmental and Civic agencies Law Enforcement Legal assistant Paralegal Police Officer Cook County Sheriff 5

6 Academic Program Students in LPSA must take a minimum of 3 honors classes and increase the number as they progress. Emphasis on both Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) Classes

8 Academic Program Students complete a four year honors program in which the following courses are required: LPSI-Law in American Society-freshman LPSII-Civil and Constitutional Law-sophomore LPSIII-Criminal Psychology-junior LPSIV-Academic Seminar and Legal Practicum/Internship-senior

9 LPS I – Law in American Society
Course Description: This course focuses on three main areas: 1. An overview of the structure and operation of the legal system in the United States 2. Criminal Law: an in-depth look at the criminal justice system 3. The Litigation Process: the fundamentals of trial procedure, culminating in a mock trial. 9

15 LPS II – Civil and Constitutional Law
Course Description: This course is divided into two sections. The first semester students will study civil litigation including tort law and family law. The second semester covers consumer education law and constitutional rights and responsibilities by analyzing a number of landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases. 15

Course Description: The course investigates the many ways in which psychology interacts with the American criminal justice system. Students will become familiar with the major theories of the causes of crime, fundamental techniques of investigative procedures and evidence analysis, and the relationship between forensic science and criminal investigations. 28

Students learn crucial job readiness skills: resume writing interviewing techniques professional etiquette effective communication problem solving

42 Internship Program Students spend two hours per day Monday through Thursday for 10 weeks each semester interning at law related offices. Internships are unpaid and students earn class credit
