1 University of Leicester Observatories
The observatories are sited next to the Manor Road sports hall. Just a couple of minutes walk from the catered halls of residence.

2 The 16” Newtonian/Cassegrain
A large reflecting telescope with excellent optics Ideal for planet viewing and for photography. Often used for third and fourth year project work. A liquid nitrogen cooled CCD camera can be attached for photography.

3 The 12” Meade Schmidt-Casssegrain
A fully robotic - easy to use telescope This telescope is ideal for those new to astronomy. A good instrument for viewing faint and hard to find objects. The telescope’s computer contains a vast database of astronomical objects. A further three telescopes are available for undergraduate use.

4 How Can I Use the Observatories?
Astrosoc – Weekly observing sessions for all, with an experienced astronomer. Astrosoc also arranges social events. Get trained – After a short course you can use the observatories whenever you like! Project work – Your third or fourth year project may involve observatory work.
