What is the first eon of earth’s history called? What kind of life appeared in the Precambrian? What kind of life appeared in the Cambrian?

2 Answers What is the first eon of earth’s history called?
Precambrian - Hadean What kind of life appeared in the Precambrian? Unicellular algae and bacteria formed and then multicellular organisms formed towards the end. What kind of life appeared in the Cambrian? An explosion of multicelluar life including marine animals and plants ( Ex: Trilobites, anomalocaridids)

3 Paleozoic Era - Ordovician Period
mya diversification of marine organisms evolution of plants onto land. The Ordovician ended with a mass extinction. Development of coral reefs

4

5 Paleozoic Era Silurian Period
mya The start of significant life on dry land First Vascular Plants Sea Scorpions

6

7 Sea Scorpions

8 Paleozoic Era Devonian Period
mya “Age of the Fishes” Examples, placoderms, lobefin fish, cartilaginous fish, and bony fish First true trees Late Devonian extinction

9

10 Paleozoic Era Carboniferous Period
mya “Coal Age,” very well known for plant fossils that make up the world’s major coal seams “Age of the Amphibians,” including ancestors of modern terrestrial vertebrates Evolution of amniotic egg in reptiles

13

14 Amphibian eggs Newly discovered “legless” amphibian- produces eggs that have yolk

15 Paleozoic Era Permian Period 299-252 mya
Great diversity of amphibians and early reptiles Therapsids were common (mammal-like reptiles) Greatest diversity of insects of all time Seed plants became more dominant The period ends with the largest mass extinction in the past 600 million years
