Create A Virtual Machine
Oracle Virtual Box Intro Microsoft Operating Systems

Setup Install Oracle Virtual Box from
Get a Windows 7 or Windows 8 32 bit ISO Get a product key for the OS Save the ISO to your computer in a known location If your mouse gets trapped in the VM, press the right control button on the keyboard
3
Begin the process Click the new button on the upper left portion of your Oracle VirtualBox screen.
4
Name your VM Create a descriptive name for your VM.
Select the type of OS in the middle drop down box. Select the appropriate version. For simplicity, use the 32 bit OS. Creating a 64 bit VM requires a lot of resources and a
5
Set the RAM amount Select the amount of RAM that is needed to support your VM. Be sure to leave at least 1GB for your host operating system.
6
Create the hard drive Your virtual box will need a hard drive. This is a file on your computer. This file can be made larger later if needed. Unless you have a space problem, use the default recommended size.
7
Hard drive type Select the default choice.
8
How the space is allocated
This screen gives you the option to either allocate the space for your drive now, or allocate it as needed. The dynamically allocated selection is the default. Your disk will only take up the space it uses. Thus, the 25 GB you specified in the slide earlier will not all be used yet.
9
Location and size This window describes where the VMs hard drive will be stored and its file name. Unless you have a strong desire to tinker, take the defaults.
10
Your VM is now built You will now have to select an ISO or DVD to boot from, and install the OS. All of your VMs will be visible in this screen.
11
Configure the DVD Your VM can have many virtual drives. By default, your Virtual Machine will attempt to connect to your real DVD drive. I recommend using the ISO that you downloaded from the e-academy. Select the CD drive under the IDE controller.
12
Configure the DVD Click the DVD icon on the far right of your screen.
Select Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file and browse to the path on disk you saved the ISO.
13
Start the VM Click the green arrow to start the VM.
The VM will automatically boot from the ISO file. Install Windows using either the default choices, or choices you make. It really will not matter. Eventually you will have to activate the

Install Guest Additions
The guest additions makes the video, mouse, and network work better. In windows 8 the installation performed automatically once I selected the button. Click the Devices menu, then the Install Guest Additions.
