4. A Guide Must Be Authoritative
A guide must have the proper credentials and permission to guide
The Bible truth is our guide (Psa. 25:5)
The Bible comes from the Holy Spirit and Jesus who has all authority (Jn. 16:13-15)
The Bible is the standard by which we live and by which we will be judged (2 Tim. 3:16; Jn. 12:48)

5. A Guide Must Be Reliable
A guide must be trustworthy and be certain of the way
The Bible is true, accurate and without error (Lk. 1:1-4; 2 Pet. 1:16,19-21)

6. A Guide Must Be Helpful A guide must offer assistance along the way
The Bible will help us out of sin (Lk. 1:77-79)
The Bible will help us with daily cares, challenges and responsibilities (Isa. 58:11)

7. A Guide Must Show the Way
A guide must be clear when giving his directions
The Bible clearly shows the way through commands (Mt. 19:20)
The Bible clearly shows the way through examples (1 Cor. 11:1; Phil. 4:9; 1 Pet. 2:21)
The Bible clearly shows the way through inference (Acts 16:10)

8. A Guide Must Have A Destination
A guide must know the path from start to finish
The Bible leads us to freedom (Ex. 15:13)
The Bible leads us to death (Psa. 48:14)
The Bible leads us to glory (Psa. 73:24)
The Bible leads us through the wilderness (Psa. 78:26,52,72)
The Bible leads us to heaven (Rev. 7:17)

9. A Guide Must Be Followed
A guide must be followed in order to benefit from his service
The Bible must be followed with meekness (Psa. 25:9; 31:3) and wisdom (Prov. 23:19)
The Bible plan of salvation must be followed from beginning to end
