3 Five Minutes After I Die
Larry Cline – Hardin Valley Church Of Christ – 5/1/16

4 Five Minutes After I Die
Loved ones will weep over my silent face, Dear ones will clasp me in sad embrace, Shadows and darkness will fill the place, Five minutes after I die.

5 Faces that sorrow I will not see,
Voices that murmur will not reach me, But where, oh where, will my spirit be, Five minutes after I die?

6 Here I have rested and roved and ranged,
Here I have cherished and grown estranged, There, and then, it will all be changed, Five minutes after I die.

7 No way to repair the good I lack,
Fixed to the goal of my chosen track, No room to repent; no turning back, Five minutes after I die.

8 Now I can stifle convictions stirred,
Now I can silence the voice often heard, Then the fulfillment of God's sure word, Five minutes after I die.

9 There forever with my chosen throng,
Long is eternity, o so long, Then woe is me if my soul be wrong, Five minutes after I die.

10 “Oh what a fool” - hard to hear, but true,
Passing the Savior with death in view, Living a life I can never undo, Five minutes after I die.

11 If I am flinging a fortune away,
If I am wasting salvation's day, "Just is my sentence," my soul shall say, Five minutes after I die.

12 Thanks be to Jesus for pardon free,
He paid my debt on Mount Calvary's tree, Paradise gates will be open for me, Five minutes after I die.

13 Marvelous grace that has rescued me,
O joyous moment when Jesus I see, O happy day when like Him I'll be, Five minutes after I die. -James B. Poer

14 “If a man dies will he live again?...”
Job 14:14 “If a man dies will he live again?...”

15 Luke 16:19-31… PRINCIPLES

16 Gods word tells me what my situation will be five minutes after I die.

17 Both the rich man and Lazarus survived death.
1. I Will Be Alive Both the rich man and Lazarus survived death.

18 Luke 16:22-23 22“Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23“In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom.

19 Luke 20:37-38 37“But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB. 38“Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him.”

20 2. I Will Be Conscious Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.’

21 Conscience survives death and should be at peace because of God’s forgiveness.

22 3. I Will Be At Home With God!
Luke 16:22 Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

23 II Corinthians 5:8 We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

24 Philippians 1:23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better.

25 It is the desire of every Christian.

26 4. My Earthly Opportunities Will Be Gone Forever
Luke 16:27-28 27“And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’”

27 Who are your “five brothers”?

28 My Destiny Will Be Fixed For Eternity.
Luke 16:26 ‘And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’

29 There Are Only Two Destinies.
John 5:28-29 28“Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.”

30 Be concerned about what you CAN change.

31 Living or Dead? You First!

32 What will your situation be FIVE MINUTES AFTER YOU DIE?
PREPARE… What will your situation be FIVE MINUTES AFTER YOU DIE?
