YORKTOWN ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER Important Dates for December: December 4th - 8th Benchmark Testing December 6th Progress reports go home December 13th Spelling Bee December 20th Christmas Program Walk to the nursing home Walk to the museum December 21st Christmas party Polar express day December 22nd –January 8th Winter break Parent/Child Project: You and your child can create a snowman together. You may use any materials; except for food items. We don't want to draw ants. These projects can be 2D or 3D and will be displayed in the hallway. They will be due by December 5th so we can have them out for everyone to enjoy before the holidays. ___________________________________ We enjoyed our Family Math Night! Your child will be participating in the following STAAR testing:
Counselor Corner The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered this Spring For elementary, the STAAR measures the statewide curriculum in Reading at Grades 3-5; Writing at Grade 4; Mathematics at Grades 3-5; and Science at Grade 5. Your child will be participating in the following STAAR testing: April 10th 4th grade WRITING 5th grade MATH April 11th 5th grade READING May 14th 3rd & 4th grade MATH 5th grade MATH (retest) May 15th 3rd & 4th grade READING 5th grade READING (retest) May 16th 5th grade SCIENCE **Due to the importance of the STAAR test, please make sure there are no scheduled appointments or no early pick-ups on these days. Students do have the tendency to rush when they know they will be picked up early. Thank you for your continued support! Dina Menn, Testing Coordinator The students made ornaments to decorate a Christmas tree at the Yorktown museum. Parents and community members can bring a nonperishable food item to vote for our tree! Dec 7th: 5-7 pm, Dec 9th and 16th: 1-4pm, Dec 3rd and 10th: 2-5 pm, Dec 17th: 4-6pm College Day! To help encourage our students to talk about college and all of the possibilities, we will have college day on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Wear your favorite college shirt! We will discuss Texas A &M this month There were 54 students who went to Dairy Queen for a free ice cream- they had perfect attendance for the first nine weeks!
