Choices for Physical Education
6th graders will have the option of taking: PE/Health Rhythm & Movement (Dance)/Health PE Waiver (Application due 6/19/18) Off Campus PE Waiver students must: Complete the application in the course catalog and sign up for the Health exam - both forms are already on our website (Main district page, Families tab, select: Off Campus P.E.) Pass 6th grade health exam this summer with an 80 or better Make sure you are using an approved provider After choosing PE or R&M, students pick two electives. Ferg

Art, Theater Arts, Band, Choir, or Orchestra If you are going to take two fine arts electives, one must be a music class & Ferg

Academic or Pre-AP? Characteristics of successful Pre-AP students:
Have a history of completing and submitting work in a timely manner Have 5th grade teacher’s recommendation Exhibit a high level of organizational and study skills Have high intellectual creative ability Be able to handle increased homework expectations Be able to work well independently and in groups Have good time management skills Ferg

Returning the Choice Selection Form
Please return the course selection forms to your 5th grade teacher by Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Please return this form even if you think you will be attending another school or district. Figg

Schedule Changes Schedule changes will be considered only in the event of inappropriate placement, movement between academic and Pre-AP classes, lack of prerequisites, an error in enrollment or a scheduling conflict. Since there are no single-semester courses in middle school, no mid-year schedule changes will be approved. All schedule changes must be requested by the counselor and ultimately approved by the principal. Requests for elective changes will not be honored. Figg

State Assessment at the Secondary Level
Grades 6-8 STAAR Reading: 6, 7, 8 Math: 6, 7, 8 Writing: 7 Science: 8 Social Studies: 8 High School STAAR EOCs Math English Science Social Studies Algebra I English I English II Biology U.S. History Tom All high school students are assessed through the STAAR test. Students must receive a passing score on the EOC Assessments listed above.

Guide to Academic Resources
Homework Hall - Homework Hall is a supervised meeting place for students wishing to work on homework after school. Meets Monday-Thursday 4:05-5:00 PM. Before/After School Tutoring - Many teachers are available either before or after school to help students with subject specific questions. Arrangements can be made by either the requesting student or by contacting the teacher via /phone. GO Time! - Dedicated 24 minute period in the daily bell schedule. GO Time! offers teachers a time during the school day to provide both additional support and enrichment opportunities. CMC Content Mastery Center - A supervised location where students can go before school to work on homework. During the school day, students can use this center as a test taking center or to receive additional support. Tom

Student Planners - Teachers Schoology pages for two way communication with students and parents. However, the most accurate information is still given each day by the teacher for students to record in their daily planner or device. Schoology - A Learning Management System that organizes announcements, assessments, and academic resources into a single site. TxConnect - Parents can use this resource to check grades online. The 4 Anti-Bullying Rules
We will not bully others. We will try to help those who are getting bullied. We will try to include others who are left out. If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home. Tom

Practice, Practice, Practice!!!
Lockers and Textbooks Lockers, class lists, and pre-ordered school supplies will be distributed to all 6th graders at Buc Bash the week before school starts. Practice, Practice, Practice!!! Learn how to open a combination lock BEFORE the first day of school. This will relieve A LOT of stress. String backpacks are the way to go. Tom

Dress Code No Hats/Bandanas
Skirts/Shorts must be finger length (girls) Cover midriffs/no see-through Sleeves must cover collarbone (tank tops must be two finger-lengths wide; no spaghetti straps, etc.) and must be snug under the armpit No pajamas or slippers Tom

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Everyone doesn’t have a smartphone or electronic devices but if you do, here are the guidelines. Electronic devices, especially phones (cameras) are not allowed in locker rooms, restrooms or other areas of student privacy. Follow teacher guidelines posted and communicated in class. Tom
