Today’s Agenda Bell work and announcements – copy homework assignment Current event due Friday Vocabulary test NEXT FRIDAY will cover new vocab on this Friday (if you’re not going to be here, let me know so I can get you copies) and a few from first 9 weeks. Finish reading Chapter 5 and writing about chapter 5. Select current event article and begin reading.

Read your current event article and identify the main idea. Write the TOPIC SENTENCE with all four required elements on a sheet of paper with your heading at the top. 25 points!

6 After Reading pp. 76-84, respond to the following
Describe how Wiesel’s faith has changed from the time he left Sighet to the celebration of Yom Kippur at Buna. Pay close attention and give clear and specific details from pages On Yom Kipper, the day of atonement, Jews traditionally fast to show God that they are sorry for this sins and to ask forgiveness. Only those over the age of thirteen and those who are healthy must fast. The imprisoned Jews discuss whether or not fasting is appropriate under the life or death conditions of the camp. Write a short argumentative paragraph arguing whether or not the prisoners should fast. Be sure to give relevant and adequate support for your argument.

Read through the Niemoller poem silently and think about the possible meanings – in relation to Night and today. Write a short paragraph about what this means to you. THEN, write another short paragraph responding to ONE of the following: How and why do we distance ourselves from political, religious, or social tragedy? Are people who stand by and stay silent when they witness injustice equally responsible for the occurrence?
