[ Pastor/CONGREGATION ]
THE CALL TO WORSHIP Haggai 2:6-7, Malachi 3:1 [ Pastor/CONGREGATION ]

Minister: For this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies say: In just a little while I will again shake the heavens and the earth, the oceans and the dry land.

I will shake all the nations, and the treasures of all the nations will be brought to this Temple. I will fill this place with glory, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

People: Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple.

The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Congregational Prayer of Confession ALL: O Lord, You alone know how often we have offended You and hurt the lives of others. Forgive us, O Lord, for every unkind thought, every untrue word, every wrong act.

Forgive us, for we have been selfish, and have not thought of the needs of others. Forgive us for our ingratitude, our neglect of prayer, our carelessness in the use of money, our forgetfulness of our sacred vows.

O God, have mercy upon us. Create in us clean hearts and renew a right spirit within us. Lord, hear our prayers.

SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION

Surely The Presence Of The Lord Is In This Place Hymn #219

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place, I can feel His mighty power and His grace, I can hear the brush of angel’s wings, I see glory on each face; Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

The Greeting of Peace (Colossians 3:15) Minister: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. The peace of the Lord be with you always. People: And also with you.

The Proclamation of Scripture

Luke 2:8-12 New Living Translation (NLT) 8 That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep.

9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them.

“Don’t be afraid. ” he said
“Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus hymn 244

Come, Thou long expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a king
Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a king. Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

Be Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; Be Thine all sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
