October 2011 Updates: School Holidays Part 1: Concord carnival With Hamutal, Natan, Ben, Gali and Koren

On a rare sunny day we went out to enjoy the Concord Carnival on Majors Bay Road, its theme being this year dinosaurs. The bustling street was turned into a mall for a day, which was very nice.

She even participated in a colouring in contest prior to the fair.
Hahgoot was excited about the event and about meeting her friends Ben and Koren. She even participated in a colouring in contest prior to the fair. We started with the petting zoo, where the kids enjoyed feeding and patting goats.

Then the brave little explorers went to pat the baby crocodile

We explored fossils, dug for bones, looked through the microscope and stopped for lunch.

Alma didn’t leave her pram but was fully engaged with everything, had a lunch break too and didn’t fall asleep because there was too much to see. On the left hand side is her favourite juice booth, as she pointed at it and announced “Ahm!” (meaning “food”)

Our three explorers turned into little artists and together completed a sand picture as a group effort.

Then we went to see the dinosaurs petting zoo\show, which was very impressive. They were all puppets but exceptionally well done and the kids quickly forgot they weren’t real. Here are the baby dinosaurs.

A meat eating giant prehistoric fly

A few kids got an opportunity to help with this creature while the carers tried to put some eye drops in her big eyes.

Last came out the real star:
a young T-Rex. He was well behaved till they noticed they forgot to feed him and needed volunteers from the audience... At this point Koren had enough so Gali and Koren went home. Ben and Hahgoot stayed but refused to volunteer 

It’s a bit hard to see, but you could actually see the legs of the person that operates the puppet. The kids were mesmerised, it looked very convincing to them. After feeding the T-Rex with some guts and meat, he relaxed and was happy to do his trick of putting a head in his mouth and not biting it off. The kid in the top photos chickened out in the last minute...

Alma was especially excited about her cone -
To cool off from the very hot day and relax after surviving the dinosaurs show, we all had ice cream cones. Alma was especially excited about her cone - she ate a whole one by herself!

Hahgoot played the clowns booth at the fair and won a frog doll, while Ben got a balloon poodle. They walked home playing happily until sadly the dog popped. They coped well with the tragedy, after I assured them I have many happy photos of the doggy.
