Housing assistance is a supportive service offered to assist migrant and seasonal farmworkers to retain employment or enter into or complete training;

Permanent Housing – intended to be owner-occupied, or occupied on a permanent, year-round basis
Examples of permanent housing include: rental units, single family, duplexes, other multi-family structures, dormitory, group home, other housing types that provide short-term, seasonal, or year-round housing opportunities in permanent structures

May require investments in development services, project management, resource development to secure acquisition, construction/renovation and operating funds, property management services and program management

Temporary Housing – intended to meet the farmworker’s need to temporarily occupy a unit of housing for reasons related to seeking or retaining employment, or engaging in training;
May be a rental unit located in a permanent structure, or a yurt, mobile structure, and a tent, which can be moved from site to site

14. NFJP SGA for PY 2007 Housing
Seventy percent (70%) of housing assistance funds are to be used to provide permanent housing assistance services;
Thirty percent (30%) are to be used for temporary housing assistance services;
Administrative costs are limited to fifteen (15) percent of the grant

Total available Federal funds: Total funding $4,950,000
Approximately $3,465,000 is available for permanent housing assistance;

Eligible Applicants will:
Design their programs around the Guiding Principles and Definitions, found in the SGA;
May propose to offer:
permanent housing assistance only;
temporary and/or emergency housing assistance only;

The applicant must:
Have an understanding of the housing assistance needs; 20 points
Have a familiarity with the housing conditions in the Proposed Service Areas;
