2 OVERVIEW Why infection control program is important in Our Center? To coordinate and supervise the activities of the Infection Prevention and Control Program and to communicate with all departments of the organization to ensure the program is continuous and proactive.

3 There are three main reasons for this: 1.1. Many people who are ill are treated in close quarters More environmental challenges due to clinical waste production Some procedures that save lives may increase the risk of infection e.g. surgery and antibiotics etc. 2.2. 3.3.

5 Infection Control Committees The first infection control committees and policies were formulated in the Late 1950s and early 1960s in response to a pandemic of highly virulent, antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the hospitals of the USA, Australia and Western Europe.

6 Professional Associations Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC). conceived in 1972 as Association for Practitioners in Infection Control In 1994, the name changed to Association for Professionals in InfectionControl and Epidemiology Formed in 1970 as Infection Control Nurses Association Changed to Infection Prevention Society in 2006. Infection Prevention Society (IPS)
