STARTER QUESTION: WHAT IS OBEDIENCE?
Obedience can be defined as: compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another's authority behavior that's respectful and mindful of rules and laws an attitude of heart toward a higher authority “dutiful or submissive compliance to the commands of one in authority.” Using this definition, we see the elements of biblical obedience. “Dutiful” means it is our obligation to obey God, just as Jesus fulfilled His duty to the Father by dying on the cross for our sin. “Submissive” indicates that we yield our wills to God’s. “Commands” speaks of the Scriptures in which God has clearly delineated His instructions. The “one in authority” is God Himself, whose authority is total and unequivocal. For the Christian, obedience means complying with everything God has commanded. It is our duty to do so. Synonyms: Conformity, orderliness, reverence, accordance, agreement, meekness, quietness, respect, servility, willingness, compliance, dutifulness, duty, observance of the law/rules; submissiveness, submission, Antonyms: Disobedience, disagreement, disregard, fight, mutiny, rebellion

WHAT DOES GOD’S OBEDIENCE LOOK LIKE?
Background of Abraham and Sarah ' Now after these things, God tested [the faith and commitment of] Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he answered, “Here I am.” God said, “Take now your son, your only son [of promise], whom you love, Isaac, and go to the region of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and then he got up and went to the place of which God had told him.' GENESIS 22:1-3 When God has called you to do something, there is specific instructions He gives us. The times where we are “confused” with these instructions, we have to do a serious heart check on ourselves. (Look at Jesus, Matthew 26:39) (God is not a God of confusion, He does not operate in confusion- Matthew 6:34; Revelation 3: 15-16)

Why is Obedience better than a Sacrifice?
an act of offering to a deity something precious; especially : the killing of a victim on an altar something offered in sacrifice destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else something given up or lost
14
Why is Obedience better than a Sacrifice?
' Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and oxen to sacrifice to the Lord your God; but the rest we have destroyed completely.” Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop, and let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night.” Saul said to him, “Speak.” Samuel said, “Is it not true that even though you were small (insignificant) in your own eyes, you were made the head of the tribes of Israel? And the Lord anointed you king over Israel, and the Lord sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, totally destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are eliminated.’ Why did you not obey the voice of the Lord, but [instead] swooped down on the plunder [with shouts of victory] and did evil in the sight of the Lord ?” Saul said to Samuel, “I have obeyed the voice of the Lord , and have gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me, and have brought back Agag the king of Amalek, and have completely destroyed the Amalekites. But the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things [that were] to be totally destroyed, to sacrifice to the Lord your God at Gilgal.” Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obedience to the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed [is better] than the fat of rams. “For rebellion is as [serious as] the sin of divination (fortune-telling), And disobedience is as [serious as] false religion and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord , He also has rejected you as king.” Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the command of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Now, please, pardon my sin and return with me, so that I may worship the Lord .” But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of the Lord , and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”' 1 SAMUEL 15:15-26 Partial Obedience is still disobedience to God. *Saul’s disobedience was an act of rebellion, inquity(sin), and idolatry. *The second answer is offered in Saul’s confession. He said, “I have sinned. I violated the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid of the men and so I gave in to them” (1 Samuel 15:24). Saul admitted that his sacrifice was a transgression (sin) and was against God’s command. It was the result of seeking the approval of people. Obedience to God is better than making sacrifices or offerings to Him: disobedience is an act of rebellion disobedience is sinful, disobedience is a form of idolatry, disobedience disrespects God’s Word, disobedience is based on looking good to other people rather than to God. Are we truly obeying God for His glory? Or are we doing it to glorify ourselves and please others?

Conclusion Obedience to God proves: our love for Him (1 John 5:2-3) demonstrates our faithfulness to Him (1 John 2:3-6) glorifies Him in the world (1 Peter 2:12) opens avenues of blessing for us (John 13:17).

Scriptures to Meditate On:
For the [true] love of God is this: that we habitually keep His commandments and remain focused on His precepts. And His commandments and His precepts are not difficult [to obey]. By this we know [without any doubt] that we love the children of God: [expressing that love] when we love God and obey His commandments.' 1 JOHN 5:2-3 ' And this is how we know [daily, by experience] that we have come to know Him [to understand Him and be more deeply acquainted with Him]: if we habitually keep [focused on His precepts and obey] His commandments (teachings). Whoever says, “I have come to know Him,” but does not habitually keep [focused on His precepts and obey] His commandments (teachings), is a liar, and the truth [of the divine word] is not in him. But whoever habitually keeps His word and obeys His precepts [and treasures His message in its entirety], in him the love of God has truly been perfected [it is completed and has reached maturity]. By this we know [for certain] that we are in Him:’ 1 JOHN 2:3-5

Scriptures to Meditate On:
' Keep your behavior excellent among the [unsaved] Gentiles [conduct yourself honorably, with graciousness and integrity], so that for whatever reason they may slander you as evildoers, yet by observing your good deeds they may [instead come to] glorify God in the day of visitation [when He looks upon them with mercy].’ 1 PETER 2:12 ' If you know these things, you are blessed [happy and favored by God] if you put them into practice [and faithfully do them].’ JOHN 13:17 ' “If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.’ JOHN 14:15 ' You are my friends if you keep on doing what I command you.’ JOHN 15:14
