2 Goals of Occupational Safety and Health
To protect workers from hazards and risks at the workplace; To promote and maintain the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations.

3 Problems – ILO estimates on OSH
337 million: work-related accidents : work-related fatal accidents 1.95 million: work-related fatal diseases

4 Global Strategy on OSH (2003 ILC Conclusions)
Main Pillars: Preventative Safety and Health Culture; and Systems Approach to OSH In 2003, the International Labour Conference had a general discussion on integrated approach and adopted Global Strategy on OSH. The Strategy called for action in five areas. As a response to the first item Promotional and Awareness, the ILO has been organizing World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April. Various national activities have been organized in over 100 countries in recent years. We have received video messages from world leaders for World Day. Next screen is a short version of the message from Mr Kofi Annan.
