Problem statement The integration of local communities into the joint management of climate change adaptation strategies for National Park Conservation in Uganda has been undermined by lack of full implementation of the Uganda Wildlife policy. Effective integration to mitigate, adapt to, and educate about climate change impacts in Ugandan national parks requires public awareness, support and stewardship of park, users, park management, and above all local communities Most of the drivers of climate change in Ugandan national parks are human activities worsening prolonged and intensified droughts as the major impacts. This has increased serious conflict among the local communities, animals, and park management-calling for community participation in park management efforts 3rd 11C3 7-9 september, Eldoret, Kenya

Methods This review was based on different climate change polices. For example the Uganda Wildlife policy and the USA National park Policy regarding the integration of the local communities in implementing climate change adaption strategies in National Parks In this review, we collated published evidence on climate change adaptation strategies and climate change impact campaigns, and community participation in conservation management using relevant search terms Additionally, key informants of climate change in and around Ugandan national parks from UWA were contacted. Information on climate change adaptation strategies and local community participation, cross cutting themes such as gender, policy, public awareness, communication skills, climate smart projects and collaborative management was analyzed and summarized for this presentation. 3rd 11C3 7-9 september, Eldoret, Kenya

Key findings Local community integration is very vital for park management of climate change adaption policy dialogue. Human activities are the major factors contributing to rising emissions of green- house gases, which drive climate change, and variability in Uganda. Climate change in Ugandan national parks has inflicted heavy loss and damage and other impacts on the national parks: starvation of wildlife, land degradation, extinction of some wildlife species, diversity loss- causing serious conflicts among animals, local communities and park management. 3rd 11C3 7-9 september, Eldoret, Kenya

Key findings Integration of local communities has become a policy issue recognized at national, regional, and global levels for sustainable park management. Incorporating climate change policy consideration into management practices could promote effective and long term adaption practice strategies and a shared culture of trust for joint park management. Climate change is already affecting natural environment management systems; it would be prudent to first track the implementation of national adaptation strategies with full community participation. 3rd 11C3 7-9 september, Eldoret, Kenya

Conclusion Practical integration of local communities in the management of national parks is imperative for sustainable, adaption, resilience and mitigation activities. Climate change has exacted negative impacts calling for effective wildlife policy implementation. national parks should not be undermined, proper and effective Participatory adaptive management would suffice. Park Management should practice better outcomes and impacts. Climate smart approaches; like smart agriculture, green energy technologies, and green climate fund promote sustainable development. 3rd 11C3 7-9 september, Eldoret, Kenya

Recommendation for Research and Practices
Mainstreaming community integration into national climate change policy to enhance access to sustainable adaptation services; Therefore, climate smart projects should be introduced to the local communities as well as green energy and technology for the sustainable conservation of Ugandan National Parks. Hence, prudent adaptation and mitigation strategies are very critical Pursue initiatives that build capacity of wildlife populations and people to be more resilient to climate change shocks. Documenting methods of integrating communities into climate change adaptation and mitigation Programmes and projects for public awareness and research activities Promoting alternative green energy activities to curb GHGs emissions among communities adjacent to the park South-South &North-South partnerships in climate change adaptation policy and research. 3rd 11C3 7-9 september, Eldoret, Kenya
