3 The city was on the move, with a population > 165,000 and growing….

4 America entered World War I in April 1917….

5 On May 21, “The Great Fire of Atlanta” destroyed 300 acres including 2,000 buildings, leaving 4000 people homeless. There was only one fatality.

6 The Rotary Club of Atlanta Board met in Woodrow Wilson’s law office to discuss bringing the 1917 Rotary Convention to Atlanta.

7 In a 1917 edition of The Rotarian, the promotional ad for the “International Rotary” convention noted that Atlanta had 2500 hotel rooms and 1500 baths!

8 2,588 Rotarians and guests attend the 1917 Rotary International Convention in Atlanta

9 On July 18, 1917 then RI President Arch Klumph proposes the creation of the Rotary Foundation.
“Rotary will constantly find it necessary to seek new fields of service. Think of the possibilities of helpful service in developments in science, education, art, health protection.”

For those Districts that hold District Conferences in the Fall the Regional Promotion Chair & District Atlanta Promotion Chair should work together and be placed on the District Conference Program. For those Districts that hold District Foundation Seminars the Regional Promotion Chair & District Atlanta Promotion Chair should work together in promoting attendance at the Atlanta Convention.
