Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia are collectively known as the Andean countries-The Andes Mountains stretch along the Pacific coast of South America. Guianas were settled by France, Britain, Netherlands (Holland). For many years the economy of Columbia was based on coffee. 7

Most of the South American countries became independent during the years between 1800 & 1820. The most recent South American countries to become independent are Suriname & Guyana. Most of South America was colonized by Spain and Portugal. 8

Inca Indians had beautiful pottery and jewelry had domesticated animals grew potatoes, beans and corn Pizzarro (Spanish) conquered the Incas. The evidence of the Incas is still evident in the South American country of Peru. 9

Portenos-The people who settled in & around Buenos Aires, they were Europeans who came to the port city for trade. Privatization-Occurs when the government sells its industries to individuals or private companies. TEST: These words will be on the test as matching! 17
