Literacy Grammar, punctuation and spelling Non-fiction writing – Recounts and Explanation texts Narrative – Authors and Narrative inked to a theme The children will develop their writing skills throughout the curriculum Humanities Understand and describe the key aspects of physical geography including: rivers, mountains and the water cycle Use maps, atlases, globes and digital computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied Art Develop techniques including control and use of materials (collage) Use sketchbooks to record observations and use them to review and revisit ideas Improve mastery of art and design techniques (painting) Learn about the life an work of Claude Monet Learn about artists who paint mountain landscapes and in particular, the Japanese artists Hakusai Learn how art and design reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation Maths The children will continue to follow the National Curriculum programme of study Music Appreciate and understand a wide range of high quality music drawn from different traditions and from great composers and musicians (Charanga unit of work) Class 3 Rivers, Mountains and Coasts Spring 2018 ICT and Computing Use computers for research ‘We are comic writers’ – the children will create their own comic strips PHSCE This will be linked to learning in RE as well as SEAL MFL French – the children will follow a comprehensive series of French lessons taught by a French specialist DT Design a mountain/river landscape Understand and apply the principals of a healthy and varied diet Understand seasonality and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed Consider the impact of design and technology on daily life and the wider world Science The children will be learning about rocks and soils and Scientists and Inventors. PE is on Wednesday and Thursday
