2 The function of a CPU Central Processing Unit
Carries out the instruction of the program. It takes an input, then puts out an output. The “brains” of the computer. They are everywhere.

3 How it works The CPU is a microchip that is composed of many integrated circuits. Two typical components: ALU and CU ALU-performs arithmetic and logical operations. CU-extracts instructions from memory

4 How it works (part 2) The clock speed of a CPU is measured in hertz.
This is used to measure the computers speed in calculation of data.

5 How is works (part 3) The CPU has four operations Fetch Decode Execute
Writeback

6 History of the CPU The first CPU’s were made out of vacuum tubes.
The first “official” processor to be made was the Intel 8086. The idea was to make the cache smaller, therefore CPU’s were able to transfer and load data much faster.

7 History of Motherboards
Before microprocessor, the CPU, memory and peripherals were housed on individual printed circuit boards Late 1980s- increasing number of peripheral functions moved to motherboard Late 1990s- supported full range of audio, video, storage, and networking functions without expansion cards Good job this is actually pretty good-Slavic.

8 Motherboards Today Modern features include CPU Slot Power connectors
Non-volatile memory chips containing BIOS Logic & connectors supporting input devices Sockets for additional microprocessors PCI slots and PCIe slots USB controllers Power connectors Integrated sound card Real time clock chip Expansion slots Fixed some stuff that didn't make sense-Slavic 9/5/2014
