1 True Worship Lesson 7 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” John 4:23

2 The Worship God Seeks Why does God desire to be worshiped?
Is it out of some desire to feed His ego? If so, wouldn’t He require showy, extravagant outward expressions of worship rather than simple, heart-felt expressions of worship? (Isaiah 66:1-3) In our last lesson we learned that God desires intimacy with man and that worship produces such intimacy!

3 True Worship Five kinds of worship described in Scripture:
Ignorant (Acts 17:23, 29-31) Vain (Matthew 15:8-9) Self-righteous (Luke 18:9-14; Isaiah 65:1-5) Self-imposed (Colossians 2:23) “will worship” (KJV) Thayer Definition: ἐθελοθρησκεία -- voluntary, arbitrary worship: worship which one prescribes and devises for himself, contrary to the contents and nature of faith which ought to be directed to Christ Spiritual (John 4:23-24)

4 Worship in Spirit and Truth John 4:19-24
What two expressions of worship is Jesus contrasting in this text? Did Old Testament worship require the right spirit and the right actions? (Psalm 24:3-4; Isaiah 1:11-15; Malachi 1:6-14) Does New Testament worship require the right spirit and the right actions? (1 Corinthians 14:15, 26, 40; 11:20-29) What is the difference then between OT and NT worship? (John 1:17; Hebrews 8:4-6; 9:9-10; 10:1-4, 14, 19-22)

5 Worship in Spirit and Truth John 4:19-24
What is necessary for us to be true worshipers? (John 4:23-24; Philippians 3:3) Would it be right, wrong or indifferent if we went back to the worship of the Old Testament? (Romans 7:1-6; Galatians 5:1-4; Colossians 2:14-17)

6 God is seeking worshipers…
…whose worship is consistent with His will and offered from the heart. …who are not worshiping for selfish motives or only for show. …who come into His real presence through His Son.
