What is TAG in High School?
It is an enrichment program that allows students to explore a wider variety of topics than the regular curriculum It is NOT an honors class It is an item on a student’s transcript that shows she did something above the regular requirements for a diploma

What are the advantages of being in TAG?
Provides the gifted student with opportunities: to study a topic of interest to him to work with her intellectual peers to experience intellectual challenge with reduced stress to develop research and presentation skills Includes more advisement for class planning and college selection

Seminars All freshmen take a Freshman Focus seminar twice per week during study hall Seminar registration takes place the second week of the semester in the TAG department A student earns a credit/no credit grade at the end of each semester Seminar listings are posted on the website:

Independent Projects Are similar to seminars in amount of time required and credit earned Meet on a schedule determined by the student(s) and a TAG faculty advisor Are based on a topic of personal interest to the student(s) Involve designing a personalized course of study with the help of a teacher Earn a credit/no credit grade at the end of a semester

Typical Schedule for a TAG 9th grader taking a TAG Seminar
1st period: Honors (or on level) Biology 2nd period: Orchestra (or other elective) 3rd period: Health (or other elective) 4th period: A/B: Spanish 2 (Th/F) C/D: Lunch/TAG Seminar (M/T/W) C/D: Lunch/Study Hall 5th period: Honors (or on level) 9th or 10th Lit 6th period: Acc Alg 1/Geometry (or other math)

Advanced Placement Options for Advanced Placement classes grow as a student gets older; AP classes in all subject areas are typically offered to upperclassmen Enrollment in an AP class automatically gives a student credit for TAG that semester 9th graders can register for AP Human Geography next year

Typical Schedule for 9th grader in an AP Social Studies class

Directed Study Is a self-directed course with guidance from a teacher
Meets daily Is available at all grade levels Gives a student elective course credit Earns a numeric grade for a class that is part of the student’s regular schedule

Career Internship Provides on-the-job experience in a career field of interest to the student Students leave school to go to their internship sites on a regular basis. Is available to TAG juniors and seniors in good standing Gives a student elective course credit Earns a numeric grade for a class that is part of the student’s regular schedule

Career Internship A county liaison helps students find their first internship assignment Examples of past internship fields: Civil engineering Sports marketing Immigration Law Orthopedic surgery Interior design

**TAG Advisement** An extra benefit of TAG
TAG advisement takes place at least once a semester for all TAG students. TAG teachers help students to answer questions about college and career goals, to plan their schedules, and later, to complete college applications.
